Why nobody using seeders like this?

Hello, I have a question about why nobody is using seeders like this in Europe, the UK, or the US, I can't find any seeders like this in those countries, in my country we are using seeders like this a lot almost every seeder are like this with single disc and I'm curious why is nobody using it in other countries, everybody using Drills, and I want to know why? what does Drill do and this seeder don't? Sorry if my English is not good.

Filling seeders with 500kg bags is easier with a larger hopper.

An air fan and a single metering unit was popular in these type of drills for over 30 years now.

I was using a copy of the MF disc drill 40 years ago, which is more or less the same type as is in the pictures. Trailed, with each disc on springs. Work very well and they still work very well.

I liked using a disc drill directly into non-ploughed land, just a pass with a cultivator or heavy discs as the discs acrually helped the breaking down process on some soils. A good covering tine bar was useful.

As Tractors go bigger there was a move to 3 point mounted drills and then the air seeders came as they allow ever wider drills/seeders.

Haha remember setting a guy of in Kazakhstan to go once round the headland with a challenger 865 and a 12m drill. Took him an hour and 45min at 20km/h to go once round. Think they said the field was 18,000 acres

Go back to the 1970s-80s, that type of drill was all there was, MF30 was the drill to have here in essex, that and 2 wheel ford 5000s, anyone remember that pair teamed up with "cage wheels", then the Ford 7000, was the big tractor, when the white topped cab 600 series of fords came out, i thought that they had the best cab by far, tinted glass, heater, blower, front opening doors, etc, all 2 wheeled drive, ransomes ploughs, newholland small square balers, or claas? and open decked non chopper combines, strawburning, and the firengines, roaring up our unmade road, to put out the hedge fires, from the strawburning, where the sounds ans smells of summer, as us kids remembered?

The quick answer is scale. Our drills have similar coulters, just wider machines for bigger areas, plus we need to fold up to go on the road to move. We have 67 million people in a tiny area, so you have to be less than 3m wide to get around.

If you look at an MF30, its basically that. So we did use drills like that, only 40 years ago.

I started my drilling years in 1962, with MF trailed drills (all 7" row spacing). The 13 row MF 732 was a horrible little thing and was soon replaced by a 20 row 12' wide 728 with large steel wheels and after a few years by a 29, with large rubber tyres.

Around here the 20 row ones that had come off the large downland farms had were less suitable for smaller farms where road travel was often necessary, consequently the dealers found them harder to sell. That suited us perfectly, as I could get all around the farm and only had to cross the road for 1 field. I used to tow a set of 4 Parmiter drag harrows behind the 20 row drills. The harrow chain hitch connected to a ring on a steel bar about 3'6" long which was on the back of the drill. The harrows were used off set towards the drilled side. When you did a loop turn, the ring slid across. The outside drill wheel mark was left visible, although I did use the drill's markers

The local MF dealer sometimes used to cut down the 20 row ones to 15 in their metalwork shop to make them easier to sell. They also did the same with 12' combine headers and reduced them to 8'6" for the same reason. In those days the headers on combines did not come off easily, unlike those of today.

I loved going drilling with those trailed drills because of the fact that I could easily see what was going on on the drill. Of course all the seed came in 50kg bags so the had to be humped onto a trailer and off again to fill the drill, no pallets then either.

Nothing wrong with your English, or that drill you are showing.

The reason why they are not used in the U.K. is because they have gone out of fashion here.
There are still plenty of farms that use that width of drill here.
But Pneumatic feeding from the hopper to the coulter is necessary on wider versions, so has become fashionable even on narrow drills too.

There is an advantage with pneumatics in that if a coulter was to block, the seed that it would have planted, then gets distributed equally over the rest of the coulters, so that the seed rate/ha remains the same.
Or certain makes (such as Weaving) have an air bleed-off that loses half the air pressure/volume just above the coulter, therefore if the coulter blocks, seed is blown out onto the soil surface, some of which will usually grow.

However, if the fan hydraulic motor was to blow an oils seal, chances are that oil will get in with the seed and gum up all the pipes, between the hopper and the coulters. Major catastrophe!

At least with your Sakalak drill, if a coulter blocks, you will soon see the seed overflow from the feed roller.
But I would have preferred that have half the disk coulters moved the soil is the other direction to prevent the drill from wanting to ‘crab’ sideways, particularly when drilling on the side of a slope.

3m Box drill still very popular in mainland Europe.
Remenber being amazed on Lemken factory tour a few years ago to be told the Saphir box drill was their biggest seller on the home market whereas here 95% in UK would be Solitair pneumatic.
As @Nearly says, ease of filling with 500kg bag the biggest plus point.

After I heard there is no difference in work between the seeders I compared in the post, I'm thinking of changing my seeder and buying This One or like this, mine is 4.50m Sakalak same as in the images above and I can seed around 25ha in one day but I have to cultivate field and then seed and it use more fuel and time too, but with this one I linked you can do two jobs cultivating and seeding at the same time and I think its better, what do you guys think it is a good idea? and will a tractor with 125hp pull it NH T6050?

I was going to suggest exactly that idea. Link it so a cultivator in front and do two jobs at once. As the drill uses disc coulters, it should work well.

One disadvantage with a box drill is the wheelings made by the towing tractor when we used MF 30 and then a Bamlett drill on our Fenland you'd get uneven germination. When we put a bridge-link between drill and a power harrow that helped a lot .
