If everything is going well and there’s air conditioning, the window is closed.
If there might be a problem and / or there’s no A/C, it’s open.

One of my earliest childhood memories is visiting one of my grandads in Barnsley hospital after he had a lung removed. It looked very serious but he did live a further 15 years
I have always seen places where you can buy new tractors, mowers, balers etc, I’ve never yet seen anywhere to buy new lungs.

If you need the back window open so you can see better you should invest in some window cleaning products…

Plus these days, auto steer is great for being able to watch what the machine is doing so much better
