Windows 10

I see a little Windows icon has appeared on my pc and it is inviting me to reserve a limited offer free upgrade to Windows 10. Currently on Windows 7. I would read the mall print carefully, but even if it is free, do I want this? Do I need this?

Just got the same thing (as I assume did hundreds of millions of other Windows users!)
As someone using Windows 7 on a desk top all the bumph seems to be saying how good it is for windows smartphones and gamers.
Are there any big gains for the every day user or will it just cock up a perfectly good system that I am used to?

Should we click the magic button?

I am just guessing here. But you could more than likely reserve your free copy and not upgrade to 10 when it does go live.

Then down the line when you feel comfortable with 10 you can upgrade with that free copy you have.

I'm hoping someone on here is geeky enough to know the answer for us lesser mortals who just want a system that does what we want it to without, as you say, cocking up something that at present doesn't seem to present any problems. Is everything newer always better? I'm only using on a PC.

This is what I will do for now. My PC is getting very slow so it needs a refresh of some sort.

Do not upgrade until you have researched how the OS performs. Microsoft's head is so far up its a.......e they will try anything to make a sale. Its time they analysed their market place and produced OS's for specific tasks, i.e. Gamers, Businesses, Comm's or general use etc. I'm upgrading to XP, the best thing they ever produced.
