recently bought this ford 7810 and trying to get wiring right so basics work. Ironically all but one workmlights are working. But no headlights at all and I know the lights themselves work and are connected. But found his hidden away, any idea what relay or relays are missing?

Unless you have masochistic tendencies, I'd highly recommend getting the services of a good auto electrician. I was heading for the mental wards until I did!:ROFLMAO: Tractor electrics is a black art.

I am finding that out, normally ok with electrics, but it all seems to run on passive mode. I plugged a known live into the starter yesterday expecting it to turn it over and nothing, yet when I fired it off the power probe it turned over. Slightly confused

You need a wiring diagram. Then you can see where the other end of that purple wire goes, without trying to trace it through the harness. It will have a diagram for the headlights as well. Sorry, I don’t have one for 10 series fords.
You really need a wiring diagram for any tractor/car wiring. Or someone who is familiar with the specific model. They will know where most of the wiring goes through experience.

Have you got a multimeter? If not that’s your first investmen! Stick it on continuity mode and first check that you have continuity to earth on one of the headlamp pins. If you have an earth then you need a live to either dip or main beam. Check the plug fir 12v then if nothing follow the harness to the first plug/connector and again use the multimeter to check continuity from the headlamp plug back to the connector for both wires and check for 12v. Carry on and repeat along the harness. It’s either a no earth situation or a dirty pin in a harness plug usually
