With P & K fert prices is it worth baling straw

If it showery forecast and nobody wants to pay for it chopping look a good idea. I really will consider chopping some this time to let the pressure off abit

No bull%*T- if the baler isn't in the field baling then you put the chopper on. None of this 'well I might have it' type spiel. Straw needs to be put away and stacked pronto. Arable farmers have a schedule to keep as much as anyone.

There is no way OM can go up 3% in four years. Most likely flawed loss on ignition test actually picking up a bit of muck or sewage in the sample. (If I’ve understood correctly apologies if not).
You are most probably right. How else are you supposed to test?
I tested a few years ago and every thing was very low 3% apart from a block that had had a few years of (plenty of) compost and that was 6%. Was that correct? Suddenly the field that has never had any amendment is 5% and the 3x amendments is 8%!!
And Clive is selling his C credits?! The testing needs to get a whole lot more accurate than I have experienced.
The point is applying FYM/compost/cake is going in the right direction.

Totally agree, not a criticism at all just pointing out how bad those loss on ignition tests are, I’ve had similar wild increases and decreases. I don’t do them anymore.
The agreena carbon Clive is doing is based on practices and algorithms (I’m doing it too) so om testing doesn’t come into it at the moment tightly or wrongly.
If they do want to start using OM increase for payment type stuff it needs to be way more accurate.

Anyone have a thought on the value of rape straw whether to bale or not. Previously been getting £30 acre + plus of combine but realise this would need to be more. How much more?

Right. Here's a draft on slightly OT but not sure where else to put it.
Just been across some WW and WB with chicken muck, would have liked to have waited for a couple of weeks but ground conditions were to good not to take. Especially with rain forecast this weekend to wash it in. Now we seem to have every pigeon and crow in the area on the fields. Thoughts please?
