Realistically you've going to have to part with around £4K for a god used one. Bonus is though it'll hardly lose money.

Consider hiring one. You'll do a years worth of wood in a couple of days if you get organised

Have a palax here. Does up to about 11 inch with circular saw blade. Tungsten tip blade only been sharpened once in twenty years.

I suspect you are right... N Europe grows one hell of a lot of softwood that is processed. I like the way that what are essentially branches or poor thinnings, are turned into a usable small log.

Ours is just a basic,load by hand so no hydraulic in feed. One man lumping logs on and one doing the cutting will fill an old three ton tipper trailer in about half an hour

Depends on timber going through them, nice straight grain, straight 6ft lengths easy split will fill a tatty box in a few minutes but twisty branch wood will take a fair bit longer
