Working out how old a grey fergy is from its numberplate

today I was looking at a grey Fergy with the old Montgomeryshire registration EP and no letter at front just EP with 4 numbers ....so that would make it just after the war ended or would it...
It was covered and on blocks so was well looked after!!!

You can also tell by the casting numbers on the side of the gearbox (when sat on it) if it is a T20, that will age the tractor to within a week or two, as they put date numbers on all the castings.

I dont think there was any standardisation on numbers until 1965 when all number followed had to follow the format 3 letters 3 numbers then C for that year.
The county numbering allocation meant that some of the smaller counties had far too many and were still, issuing just 2 letters which gave a choice of 19,998 registrations others had used up their lot even allowing for the third letter giving a further 400, 000 odd
