YL 183 Bolts

Does anybody know what size the bolt should be at the front of a YL 183 mouldboard? It is the bolt that goes through the mouldboard and bolts onto the frog. Should it be single knib or double knib? These are Kristeel mouldboards.

Yes, it is a single nib bolt, just fitted some boards the other day. The middle stay on the frame on the back of the board, has anyone bothered pulling the middle of the board in relative to the tail. I have not bothered affixing them on my plough, instead having an adjustable stay going to the top of the leg to lift/lower the board tails along with another stay to adjust board push out/pressure. Not tried it yet mind!!

That front bolt goes thru the little cast kidney shaped piece?
Does that piece have to be riveted in , or is it better floating abit ,so the bolt squares it up ,
I was thinking about sort of two pins ?
I riveted mine ages ago but wonder if the angles off would it matter???

think it is a single nib, 3/8" unc and the counter sunk angle is different to bolts you can buy today

They are a much steeper countersink with a wider Knib. Same on 69 BK’s.
best way to go about this one is to make a bespoke one. Heat the head of a normal Ransomes single knib bolt to glowing and then judiciously hammer it into place. Use the pein rather than the flat. Don’t go mad and break the packer. Heat it away from, not in the hole

Yes that is what I have done in the past, as you say David, it is a steeper angle than normal, westlakes had some last year,

I have used ordinary hexagon headed bolts to make square headed for International B12 points by that method. Heated the heads to cherry red, inserted them in the hole, beaten them into the shape and finished them off by grinding the remainder of the heads down level with the angle grinder.
