Yorkshire boarding

New calf house been built at work at the minute . Yorkshire boarding to be put on one side . 1 question what type of timber should be used for it . It`s going in a very open spot with no shelter so will get hit with all type`s of weather .

we use 150mm x22m tanalised timber basically its a soft wood so nothing special, depending on location we are now in favour of having a extra timber rail at the top of posts and leaving a 10" gap for ventilation under the gutter if its a low building

Shed is 16ft at the eaves so no problem with height . Been mentioned that there`s 2 rows of boarding to be put up one inside the other . To restrict the amount of wind / rain that can get through . Yorkshire boarding is completely new to me only ever see pic`s of it on here . Would`nt be a whole pile of it done this side of the water .

Was at a dairy co meeting yesterday with ventilation specialist speaker. He was very excited/animated about the difference between space boarding and Yorkshire boarding. Yorkshire boarding has two layers of boarding with a board covering the gap. Space boarding is as it sounds boarding with spaces. The Yorkshire boarding should provide same ventilation if not better but without the risk of rain and snow blowing up to 20ft into the shed.

what about ventair or highlight cladding, the gaps on Space boarding are usually less than the thickness of the timber

I bought some boards from a timber merchant think there's usually two standard dimensions. Think mine is 6 x7/8 in. Just be careful of board spacing we used a board on its edge then everything dried out after 6months and I ended up with a bigger gap than I would really of liked :(
