Yorkshire Gas & Power Contract Termination

I am attempting to help out a neighbour who has a fixed term business contract with the above firm.

His contract runs to 31st march 2025, but he would like to leave due to what turns out to be exorbitant charges- this is a single small cattle shed - The firm claim that the only way out is to pay upfront the balance of electricity that he would use between now and end of march 2025, which amounts to some £5200 !

I've posted their standard Ts&Cs which seems to indicate at section 5 and section 13 that he may be stuck in the contract and there is no way out until it reaches the end- but i am no expert by any means.

Would anyone have been in a similar position and offer some assistance?

Not the same, but my elderly mother was railroaded into a uncompetitive business renewal with them by a broker. I've just had it cancelled after complaining. In this case ygp seem to have been fair - I think they were embarrassed by the broker acting on their behalf.

It does show that things can be done.
