I was just thinking of the number of things I’ve learned to do on YouTube over the years and how it’s saved me lots of time and money. And for the most part has been done out of desperation and my hatred of paying someone something that took me 20 minutes to learn.

Has anyone else learned anything useful from YouTube?

Some examples of what I have learned.
-Hoof trimming
-wiring up some 3phase motors
-Trouble shooting electrical issues(bad motor, contactors, switches, capacitors) and how to check relays
-getting the timing right on various engines and setting valve lash
-Before buying something with a known issue I’ll get a feel for how long it takes to fix by watching someone else repair it
-Trouble shooting various cooling issues on air conditioning and milk refrigeration systems

Still a lot more to learn

I’ve learnt that cats are not as funny as dogs and that people will film any old sh!t and post it.
How “influencers” make £000s per year baffles me.

But yes, good starting point for any number of diy stuff but no substitute for doing it yourself

I think of all the things there is still a lack of quality tractor maintenance videos but of course - small audience.

Been great for lots of things - bikes, woodwork, weight training, old welsh rugby nostalgia...

One thing I've learned off You Tube, some people can expain how to do something in a quarter of the time of someone else, because they have prepared beforehand what they need to say.

All of my computer repairs have been done using you tube.
On the other hand the most boring thing on the planet is watching a man trying to explain how to service an aga in 42 dull steps.

I wonder how many injuries have been caused by watching someone untrained doing a YouTube video and showing them the way to do something?

Just because you have watched a video doesn't mean you are proficient in that skill!

I wouldn't want to let someone loose on my cattle trimming their feet , dehorning,AI or PD because they have watched a 10 minute video!!

Would you want your cars brakes or wheels changed by similar?

Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly first.

Im not really talking about hiring someone to perform a task who learned it on YouTube. What have you learned yourself?

As far as it being dangerous I’m an almost painfully meticulous person at times. I’ve never made a cow worse learning to trim one. It’s just that I can do in 10 minutes what used to take 40.

I learned to change tires and brakes as a kid, on my bike. It just scales up from there.

Learning that a corroded bulb holder for the rear numberplate on a ford SMax automatic , can cause the boot to open!!! every time you select reverse !!!.

A 10+ minute video generates more income and ranks you higher than a shorter video does.
Hence there is often a lot of waffle.
