Young Farmers The End ?

Just seen in the Farmers Guardian that the National YFC committee is stopping having an annual meeting that for many farmers past and present has been a highlight of the year and a great way for people to meet others from clubs across the UK .
Have the boring PC police now even invaded the YFC ?? what a shame
I am long past my days in YFC but had a fantastic time going to AGM's and have made life long friends through attending national and local events
Just wonder what other TFF members think ? maybe its just me seeing it could be the beginning of the end of YFC starting with stopping the AGM

Possibly is, just think how many members only join for the AGM? I know in the past in my old club around 15 did jut that. YFC has been dwindling for many years, this may be the final nail for some clubs.

But, I don't think they had much choice really after the incidents this year. Unfortunately its not a PC problem, its a social problem in this country. We all got as drunk as they did in our time, but we channeled it in different ways. Nower days it seem acceptable that these things happen every weekend in local towns.

It will be a downward spiral unless they put on another event of that scale e.g. a festival type weekend away from the general public whoever the chairman/women is who allowed this motion through should always have it hanging around his or her neck that they drive the first nail into the YFC coffin

I too was a very active member and went to the National AGM several times. But times have changed and what was a good solid drink and a good laugh isn't enough for a growing number of the "few" who spoil it for the rest and are an embarrassment to the rest of the membersand to the YFC organisation. I know that this happened with the members from my county Brecknock who caused damage to the bus and carnage during the weekend, all through drink. Instead of naming, shaming and banning, the YFC are looking at cancelling the event in the future. The idiots spoil it for the good ones again.

The nail has been driven in by drunken, irresponsible so called members and not by any chair person. Believe me, I've seen it for myself.

Fully agree, that 1 weekend cancelled out all the good things that lead up to it by the many clubs who fundraised and helped local and national charities.

From talking for a friend who lives in Blackpool, he said he would be very doubtful that they'd ever be able to hold the event there anyway, such was the feeling of the local community

there will always be idiots who spoil things but there is so much good and charity fundraising done due to holding a AGM as well as injecting a huge amount of money into a hosts economy that
good PR should more than overcome small actions of mindless idiots .
Its a slippery slope once you yield to some bad PR and dont spin the positive the battle has been lost

I will admit to going to the local YFC only because a couple of friends did and I rather fancied a girl who also went. But it was often fun and, as has already been written, it does a lot of good too.

Nobody can imagine that the current lot of members are on the whole any better or worse than we were; some were prats, some were a bit officious, but most came along for the socialising and to learn a bit.

I think it is very unlikely that it will all end before my children have the chance to join, the current 'headlines' will blow over, the idiots will be binned or grow up and we'll see AGMs again sooner or later. (y)

Normal Saturday night in Blackpool alledgely?
Last time I had a night out in Blackpool about 12 years ago there was a full on battle in the main road outside the Syndicate nightclub. Between loads of bouncers from the club and a large group of blokes outside. Road closed loads of police and folk carted off in ambulances.

The few AGM clips I saw while wrong and a few idiots acting up through drink pale into insignificance compared to the behaviour of some in Blackpool every weekend.

Can’t be beyond the wit of man for young farmers to all book the same weekend in Blackpool in summer and leave YFC out of it......

It's sad but after seeing some of the videos of cars sitting in traffic being kicked, the drivers threatened, yfc standing outside bars tenfold forcing families to walk on the road in heavy traffic... it was coming. Have it at a big showground, move to a different part of the country each yr. Invite camping - would sort out the genuine AGM goers from those purposefully out to cause trouble

A real shame that it looks like this is the end of the AGM.
After the behaviour of a few this year I can understand the need to cancel next years AGM to send a strong message that that sort of behaviour won’t be tolerated but it really is a shame that it looks like this is the end.

Maybe a YFC ' AGM festival ' ( away from anyone else ) done really well that only card holding members could attend could really boost membership by drawing in new members who want to attend such an event ?
