Bright sun now for last hour. Looks like we could be dry for rest of day - in which case it's our first seven dry days in succession in over a year! Wonders will never cease. Tiree which isn't that far west of us , had nearly an inch yesterday ( 24 mm ).

Really? I'm sure it was only a few days ago you were saying it would take months for your moisture levels to drop :scratchhead:
What kind of sandy boys ground are you on to want more already?;):ROFLMAO:

It's probably more psychological. The ground that was wettest has dried to a horrid crust and a drop to soften it would stop it cracking horizontally rather than vertically. Spring crops took so long for the ground to dry out that the seeding depth has next to no moisture. It's been said elsewhere that the ground is dry at depth when digging. Much of the winter rain packed the top pores and didn't disk through evenly. Crop roots are not amazing. We had cracks in the clay you could get a hand in two weeks ago .

So yes, 8mm would be welcome. Don't need a lot. Just a little. I think I said an inch a month or 8mm a week in a good dollop would be ideal.
