Zon 4 gas bird scarer

Have two of these after replacing those old mechanical Exid ones that rarely ran reliably. The Zon is available with a battery clock for shutting off at preset times and is simple and works well. I've only replaced some cracked gas hose recently but nothing else. As a mechanically operated banger they are pretty good.

If they're the same two zon gas bangers I have which run off butane they're the work of the devil. The ignition spark rarely works in modestly damp weather or even after a heavy dew, also the adjustment valve on the gas cylinder cap which is supposed to set rate of flow into the gas bag on the banger is impossible to set. It'll either go off every 30 seconds or not at all and as the pressure inside your gas cylinder reduces you'll constantly have to keep readjusting the valve on the cap which will slowly drive you insane. Mine didn't have the day and night clock. They've been sitting rusting in the back of a shed for this last 8 years now. This is only my experience of the two of them, I wouldn't have another for free. I bought two Bangalore one's which are a godsend, I can set them in the field and forget about them and they've been troublefree ever since, they run on propane.

Vining Pea grower up here uses all Zon guns.
Grows 7-8000 acres of them.
Thats a lot of guns at one per field. Doubt they would have brand if they weren’t any good.

Anyone running the newer Zon EL08 or a Zon 4 with mechanical timer, how are you getting on with them, particularly in comparison to a Bangalore Mk2?

Absolutely sick of the unreliability of Portek Mk3's, the 2's were/are great, but need to replace the 3's that i have with something reliable!
