What's everyone bedding their cubicles up with?

Sand, sawdust, finely chopped/milled straw, envirobed, all fairly good.

Avoid ag dispenser, you want a woodchuck- built like a proverbial outhouse- machinery firm in Honiton supply them?

Virtually no one I know is using straw any more, the cost saving is enormous and of course far less mastitis burden.

Only downside with sand is the slow destruction of spreaders to get rid of it, but folk like Steanbow etc just keep a couple of old tired dual spreaders around for the job with a skid steer hired in to scoop out the bottom of towers as required.

Is anyone putting Envirobed or the new mix through an AG Maxi dispenser? I've always used Easicattle from NW Resources but it's getting silly expensive and it tends to blow off the beds as we've quite open sheds. Bit concerned that the Envirobed seems quite dusty, particularly as we will obviously be loading it manually into the dispenser

i convinced my old man to try load of Cozi bed last month and its working well so far. was supprised how cheap it was. spoke to bloke there after he come to the farm apprantly they used to make the envirobed but now doing it themselves and its alot cheaper for the same thing

Depends where you are for haulage costs. EnviroBed was cheaper for me when it came from Penrith because cosi-bed comes from Cheshire so haulage was a killer. Both are very similar price/tonne though.
Yes there dusty but what's good that's not dusty?
I recommend the sawdust/EnviroBed mix. It defo lasts longer like they say it will and not noticed any differences cow health wise.
I'm putting it through a 150 Ag dispenser and works well but I hear the cosi bed stuff doesn't flow as easily

It was my last load of pure envirobed that was dried by the cosi bed guys that didn't flow well through my Ag dispenser. Was constantly shaking it to get it to drop down. Must have just been dodgy load. Flows better with sawdust in though!

Arh right. Thinking of giving it a try, cows always seamed to stay cleaner when we used envirobed years ago plus we seamed to get better attachments as it didn't seam to stick to there udders as the sawdust tends to. Could be worth a shot.

I find it better with sawdust because I bed up once a week and with just EnviroBed, I'd find by the 6th day the cubicles were getting bit short but with sawdust in there's still plenty on the 7th day so think il use less of it. Il find last invoice and see how it compares on price with just EnviroBed. There's been no change with udder health

that seems orite to be fair. what did you think of sawdust and papre quality i got decent size sample but didnt find it as good. ultimatly went for price but the quality i found with the cozi was better and so was price. mastitis cases also seem down since change

Paper quality same as usual but I opted for the kiln dried fine sawdust as opposed to the larger bits of saw dust which looked like they might get stuck in cows feet and irritate.

Chopped straw thro a Teagle round bale straw chopper, bedded very day from when the cows come in at night in October and carry on til they go out in April and still til their out at night. Use about 3 bales a week for 100 cows and 50 heifers in cubicals bedded every day.
