I said to the boss it would be better to employ someone part time. Send him moleing in the winter and help with harvest in the summer!

Made it my new years resolution to do it. Bought some traps from here

good traps - better than the ebay crappys I bought. Only need to worry about doing the lawn but its a nice skill to be able to have. Got 3 so far - starting to get a good feel for the runs now and clearing out the run and compacting the sides is important

Couple of hours may have been an exaggeration , but For the equivalent of paying someone £200 to catch them I can find the time here and there. I tie it in with Checking traps near to fields when you go to move electric fences etc. Always leave trowel in each quad box too so if driving past and traps need re setting or moving then doesn't take much extra work .
Problem here is generally I catch moles invading from neighbouring properties or woodland.
Would really grate to pay £13 to catch next doors moles.
Any tips on catching the last few moles on the farm that seem to know every which way to not get trapped!
I've caught moles successfully over the years but I've two places where hey have a stronghold! I'd guess from experience there could be no more than 10-15 moles at each stronghold.
I cannot catch any here..... They are setting the traps off on the whole but usually just stuffed up with soil or now and then gone under the trap. I've tried all my tricks to baffle them! Driving me mad now. Using mainly scissor traps and tunnel traps.
Put into context I'll have caught 49 so far this last year, year before 90odd, year before 120odd, year before 170odd. I'm clear of them on 95% of the farm just these last few wise ones....
I'm tempted by the shotgun but not often enough time to do it and I've never had the need to before

So!...traps don't work if you keep them in a bucket in the shed then.

A pipe from the exhaust down the tunnels is illegal now isn't it.

Doesn't really work anyway, they're pretty quick at blocking runs off and tend to move elsewhere if near a wood etc

Could always wait till spring and go out with the roller. You can then either shoot them or maybe stand a better chance with traps while they work.
