Well, you seem to have got that off your chest. I dont really know what Teresa May stands for anymore, other than a weak and wobbly, u turn, cock up woman.I am a Conservative by habit, but that's because I am a Unionist by instinct. If I were in NI I would be a UUP supporter, bus as for politics here on the mainland...
I think that the Liberal Democrats are neither liberal nor democratic, the only policy I agree with that they hold - and could be trusted to deliver - is PR, but I want it because I am a democrat, they want it because it will make them 'kingmakers'. A tyranny by a majority is an awful thing in a supposed democracy; a tyranny by a minority - the Lib' Dem's - would be even worse. This is the only thing that gives me pause for thought as to whether a change to PR would actually mean an end to relative political stability.
Labour would probably try and turn us in to a republic eventually, something I do agree with. But that's it for them, they simply can't be trusted with anything that involves security, the economy or stability. Just thinking about the four most powerful people in the UK being Jeremy Corbyn, John McDonnell, Diane Abbott and Emily Thornberry turns my stomach with loathing and concern.
UKIP were a party I supported, joined, campaigned and stood for - all with no regrets. But is was always just a pressure group to get the Conservative party back to its proper place. That written, it was the most successful campaign group in political history and despite some of the idiots on its fringe, I think that in the long term the country will look back on it with gratitude. But it's dead now, job done.
Here in Wales we have Plaid Cymru as a choice... as a party they are about as left-wing as Jeremy Corbyn. They don't have the numbers to produce a realistic pool of talent for any form of government above county level and are so dogmatic it is painful. I would vote for my current Plaid candidate at county level, but that is because I know her personally through community and PTA work and she is a good and decent woman - and not a revolutionary socialist - and, anyway, there were no other candidates in the recent county elections.
And so back to the Conservatives, far from perfect, not entirely trustworthy and with some utter irrelevances in senior roles. However, Theresa May is by far the least worse option of the possible Prime Ministers after June 8th. I think she would try for a softer Brexit than I would like, but I also think that she would walk away if the EU were simply insulting, which is a hell of an improvement upon David Cameron.
I hope that there will be a Conservative majority of around fifty, to allow internal party pressure to influence the PM and because I think it healthier for our democracy. It should be noted that of 'new' Conservative PPCs, a large majority are pro-Brexit, therefore a Conservative landslide might not necessarily mean a watered down Brexit ; I guess that there will be a majority of a hundred or so.
