Anyone into Land Rovers

Noisy, cramped, draughty, and they make by back ache.

I like series LRs, they're meant to be slow noisy and draughty.

I could never get my head round modern defenders with what is a hefty price tag - still noisy, draughty, leaky and cramped.

If they didn't have aluminium bodywork they'd be just another 4x4 like a hilux or a Fourtrak - a battle with rust once they get older.

True but it depends on how you want it
Noise,I can put up with.
Draught,I can't and plan in the rebuild to replace all body seals, doors and bulkhead.
Back ache, I plan on fitting some none electric Mazda RX8 seats as I had in my 90 I had before this 2a.
And for being cramped, the seats should help :)

Use the door seals from a Santana PS10, they are superb!

If you can find some 109" twin leading shoe front brakes & the bigger drum ones fitted to the rear. Remember you'll get brake fade & eat shoes! You'll go from 60 to 30 quickly but from 30 to zero when the drums are hot takes time:rolleyes:

I may be telling you how to suck eggs but using an old LR for work certainly made me aware of keeping the running costs down!

My S3 is one of the last with the 5 bearing engine, and I think by then they were fitting the LWB brake set up as standard . It is certainly more stoppable than the S2.

I've got the 10" brakes on at the moment as I had the 11" brakes on my last tdi'd 2a and I didn' find them any better than the 10" brakes I replaced them for and with the wheel cylinders leaking every 5 mins either with good makes or britpart I've decided on staying with the 10" one's.

I'm not saying the brakes were bad but I just didn't notice any difference between the 10" and 11" but then again i didnt have a servo so i don't no, but i am looking into a front disc conversion and trying to decide which one :)

I had 2 series 3s that I rebuild with new chassis and fitted both with Nissan 2.5d engines and ran Range Rover diffs and they weren't bad but yours will be good with over drive as well
