Good luck with that (y)
It strikes me as strange that almost all of the remoaners on here have either fled the UK by some margin or never lived here in the first place. I have often thought that in hindsight I should have sought pastures new but never seriously considered anywhere within the EU, least of all France where I had a brief flirtation. Are they desperately trying to justify their actions or defend their circumstances. Life is always greener on the other side --or is it?:scratchhead:

TBH, being more serious. I suppose I used to go to the pub and discuss just how crap England had become. Here the French aren't interested and the Brits I know dislike the place more than I do, so I suppose I just have to use it up on here:whistle:

I don't believe your 750000 figure , that's 50% of our production :scratchhead:

Believe what you want, facts are facts. All none EU manufactures that have set up businesses in the UK have done so because it gives them access to the European market. If that access is restricted in anyway they will move their operations to other EU counties. My guess is that TM has already offered them a subsidy equating to the size of any tariff the EU may impose. Just another big Brexit bill for the UK taxpayer to stump up.

The car industry is not quite as simple as it seems.
Perhaps no industry benefits more from the customs union and frictionless trade than the car industry.
For example 40% or thereabouts, of components used in British built cars come from the EU! Many, many of these components and assemblies, are shipped back and forth from EU to UK several times before final assembly in the finished car. The benefits of the CU massively underpin the efficiency and profitability of the industry as a whole.
European political leaders with Thatcher to the fore, saw the huge benefits of trade and movement of goods across state lines in the USA. No delays, no paperwork, no tariffs meant large integrated supply chains with complex manufacturing processs could operate far more efficiently than in Europe. They did something about that by developing the SM and CU. The whole of the European car industry including Britain’s benefitted.
THAT’s why the Japanese who have invested so much in Britain, now see a potential major complication in their UK business plan!
