Telehandler

Just coming back on this - has anyone dealt with the company selling the Matbro, because it is a fair drive to view and I would not wish to waste my time going up north because it will be a full day roundtrip?
Who is the company (sorry if already mentioned) I am sure there will be a TFF member fairly close who won't mind having an initial look, especially is Ace can provide them with one of his very useful and comprehensive checklists. I would happily have an initial look for someone maybe a video walk around then they have an unbiased opinion before they start a long trek. S

It was with Ellwood Farm Machinery - not listed any longer though, and advert on website says POA. There are a few Matbro 270's around that are up for sale now - so maybe people are getting rid due to hearing parts are hard to get
this one looks fairly tidy fir its age though

I like the Matbros, we have had a few but as has already been said the older JCBs are pretty bomb proof and if I were looking they would be pretty high up my wish list. I would also look at a masted rough terrain forklift. Often a hell of a lot cheaper and very versatile with a bit of thought.

Unfortunately I would be very limited with a rough terrain forklift - as I will need the functionality to go over muddy areas (like I have been doing already) and I feel the forklift would get bogged down, and I would hate to regret buying it and wishing about the telehandler option.

I think a 4wd rough terrain Fork lift will go places a telehandler won't

From what I have seen they appear to become more unstable on wet mud and I personally would not like the risk this for safety reasons.
Also - you are limited on fitment option up front are you not?

We had one of these when we first started with outdoor pigs, it used to feed all the dry sows with feed spinner, every single day of the year all year through some deep ruts. Stacked all our starw and all other farm jobs. It was good and cheap.
It was replaced with a Sanderson 623 which really was a step up but it's starting to show it age now, not sure what we would replace it with when the time comes.

It doesn't have the reach option though, so you limit yourself imho. If money was no option for me, I could see the use for two items though, but as I am not on elf the fortunate wealthy horse estate owners, but rather someone who wishes to get some beasts in after land etc has been sorted - I need to invest wisely.

Just a suggestion I reckon you will get a hell of a lot more machine for less money. Most sites used them and a lot still do. I wouldn't be frightened about stability but might be about reach. Just had a quick look on plant trader and you can get some really tidy ones but didn't look like they have the extra service.

i had a old manitou,it was great ,but the ruts were enormus.if you were in the same place on soft ground you wobble when loading the forklift was much heavier on the ground than a handler.great tool but the reach of a telehandler is marvellous, plus a nice dry cab

New paint job puts me off  pictures all taken from distance and no close up ones of engine etc

Reading back through this thread you mention hay making. Do you have more than one tractor for for making hay as another tractor with a loader would come in handy or act as a back up for your main tractor? Sorry if going off thread abit(y)

That looks like a very early model possibly with old external caliper brakes. I don't like the tart's clothes
The problem with a masted forklift could be free lift height in low building with some models .
