The TH330 did have alot of electric issues with hydraulic controls. Mainly the silly expensive solenoid set up on spool block and for the up dated parts you were talking many thousands pounds! Some would have been done on warranty though but know some people had to pay!

That's probably why it was so cheap then !!!

It's already been into Finning's once for a gearbox electrical fault..

Personally I don't like it much .... hydraulics are fast, but no feel to them and I keep spilling things... and the brakes tend to jam on and release with a bang when you are on full steering lock!

The earlier th62 is a much better machine all round !

That second Jcb with the slick tyres,
There's no way it has the right forks with it... the heels are like two feet below the bottom of the carriage !!!'

Accident waiting to happen .....

Agree with @roscoe erf I would go for a basic tidy JCB, wouldn't rule out an old 520-4 basic bombproof machine. Minimal electrics to go wrong. Still worth some money if you want to sell it. Parts still avaliable. We run a 520-2 2 wheel drive one, Unloads all our seed and fertiliser moves bales, muck, lime, machinery etc wouldn't be without it now.

I agree that the old Jcb' are good machines, but a 2wheel steer.... really ????

4wheel steer is such a major advancement... and 4wd is an absolute essential, unless you run on dry, flat concrete all the time !!

Depends what you want to spend. 4 wheel steer and 4 wd drive are better but more to wear out and go wrong. I also said a 520-4 meaning 4wd

All i was saying was our old telehandler does what we want it to. i brought it as it was what the job could afford. Before we had Massey Ferguson 185 with F11 loader and that was ok for what we did. A newer one may be better but the money is not in the job

To be honest probably anything under 20 k is pay your money and take your chance

I guess a 2wd one won't have been abused as much as a 4wd ?? So there's a plus !

Our theory was no 4wd axle or transfer box to go wrong. Surprising how far it will go in mud with a load on the front.
Wouldn't advise anyone else to buy a 2wd saved us about £3000 over a 4wd one though

When running old kit you need to be able to repair it yourself. You could easily spend a few thousand taking it to a main dealer for repair

Fortunately I can get around most things with regards to mechanical issues and it is as you say a necessity when dealing with old equipment, electrics is my weaker point, but there are agri electricians for the areas I am truly stumped with.
I believe 4wd is a must for me, and probably 4 wheel steer due to the long term plan with the unit I buy, as it will have to go over mud etc.

Additionally - I have some good local engineering businesses that I can take parts over to and get them to re seal / refurb hydraulic cylinders etc, as I currently have no workshop of such means that I can do it all myself (it is in the pipeline though (y)).

Can't see the logic in the pivot argument from a stability point of view. More overall design of machine with a purpose built frame not based on an off the shelf skid unit.
Back to subject, go for it, is the same anything if you get a good one then fine if not tough. Better to get a £5000 lemon then a £10000 one and no guarantee that below £20000 you will get a gem.
Paid £1250 for mine non runner but just needed transmission filter back flush, now works fine and already paid its way.
Try using one type then the other and you will see the difference
