What's wrong with these tractors

I've been looking, just looking, at tractors for sale ,second-hand deutz and claas and McCormick seem ok kinda tractors and ones that are 6/8 years old seam a good price, my neighbours bought a deutz last year from Kerr at linlithgow , he was wanting 16 grand for it, it's a 60reg with about 4000hrs, 120 hp, he says it's a great tractor, so why do these make loose so much value?? I kinda wish l had bought it, you don't get much for 16grand theses dayz.

Eight year old 120hp was maybe less than 32grand new. It's not lost much value at £4 an hour. Hard to say without knowing the model, but you usually get an awful good spec for the money with deutz.

The current new prices for anything are ludicrous though, whatever the brand.

This is a very good point. I’ve tried/heard of issues with the McCormick but that could be owner/driver related. The duetz should be an outstanding machine!

I was “thinking” about start looking for a replacement for my tractor and I was thinking 6420S/6430. Both were over £30k!! I don’t think they cost that new, I remember a top spec (50k, AP, FL/PTO) 6930 in 2007 was £45k to pay brand new.

Looked up what my 60 plate my k430 profiline cost

Upgrade from the standard tractor was full suspension, 50kph on 520 rear 480 front trelleborgs, 4 electric valves and headland management, separate hydraulic and gearbox oil, 330kg front bolster.

It was 40k before trade in.

The other tractor that i seriously priced was a Deere 6330 premium. It was 40kph with tls but no cab suspension, on 480rear 420 front Michelin, 3std manual spools, std seat was 43k before trade in.

After getting the price for the Deere before adding on the options, I couldn't even bring myself to find out what it would be to even attempt to get near to the spec of the deutz.

Kerr had a brand new Deutz 5120 (5 series, 120hp) loader ready in TSF last week for £42k (IIRC). That is a hell of a lot of tractor for no money at all.

£16k for 8yr old sounds right IMO. Other brands take the p!ss sith some prices.

Yes saw that, as l said that neighbours tractor looks a good deal to me, l wish Kerr had another one like it, but the new deutz tractors are crazy but so are every other makes now a days. We dought a new landini powerfarm 95 with a loader 8 years ago , l think it was 25 grand that was no trade in. I would love to change it

Can’t go wrong with a Deutz, looks a good deal . Just because it’s got wrong badge on it it loses a lot of value as it gets older . Have always had stockman type brands, tried a JD for last tractor and it’s going ASAP. Might hold its value but when you add up all crap that goes wrong with it you aren’t any better off .

Think a new 6155 Deere has topped £100K now.

I'm not that into tractors but there was quite an interesting article in the FG about a year ago featuring a big Northumberland arable place that ran older tractors. There was a massive Ford (350HP?) from the 80s, I'm sure. It had a breakdown of the cost savings vs newer tackle which were significant.

I am taking a leaf out of their book with my Fords, 4000 and 6610!

Our loader tractor is 30 next month... newest tractor turned 15 last month. They've cost practically nothing in repairs over their life (y)

I’ve an 18 yr old Same with less then 2,900 hours on it. Has cost very little if anything in repairs also. Fingers crossed she’ll keep going. New tractors have dpf filters like the cars now. Apparently cannt let them idling over any more or they’ll get clogged up.
