Maxuum 5150 problem

Many thanks, I have stripped the compensator valve today, would have quite liked to have found a lump of swarf but nothing.
The tiniest of marks on the steering priority valve but it dropped out under its own weight. Polished the marks out with Brasso.
I have also stripped the draft control valve, the belleville washers etc. may have been in the wrong place, difficult to be sure because they fall out when you lift up the end plate. I hope to reassemble today and hope to find an improvement.

Put the draft valve and the compensator valve back on today, oil back in, no improvement. Put pressure gauge in the priority remote, sometimes 2500 psi, pull lever again maybe 1000 psi, pull lever again no pressure at all. Its a mistery.

Sorry for hijacking but with the attention of maxxum experienced people it's worth a shot. 5120 plus with neutral on the shuttle,no problems at all with anything like pumping, steering, shuttle or powershift but sometimes when clutch is pressed down the transmission light will start flashing and it loses powershift and sometimes drive. Nothing will reset it other than turning off at the key and restarting. Might do it then times in an hour, might go for a month without and no fault flashes. Any ideas?

Would it be worth getting the main hydraulic pump checked to make sure it is 100%? Sounds like its not reacting to the load properly ie low flow or low pressure when dead ended.

Hi, I think you are probably right, maybe the piston that moves the swash plate has become stiff. I wiill take the pump off today to have a look, another day maybe wasted.

Hi, If I could get my 5150 to work as well as that, I would be well pleased. Intermittent faults are the most difficult to find as everone knows. I wonder if it is always in the same powershift gear when the fault occurs?

I would be tempted to get it bench tested so you can rule it out. In my experience any new parts that are fitted can very occasionally not quite right and I don't think unless the pump is tested on its own it might not be conclusive? It's unlikely to be faulty but the possibility is there, it could be 10 years old or reconned by the apprentice

Probably one of the clutch pedal switches sticking.
I don't have the circuit diagrams for the f/n/r though so can't check, pretty sure my mate has, I'll ask him & check it out.

Sounds like a right ball ache, have you gone through the setting up if the compensator ?
Another cause that could be the steering signal check valve, if a signal line check valve is faulty the only system that works is the one with the faulty check valve, if that makes sense to you ?

This one has one pedal switch and if the clutch sets off the fault light it does it before the pedal has touched the switch anyway. I'm thinking it's something in the valve at the other end of the cable. Maybe an oil change?

Should have done this before but, put a gauge on the bottom of the compensator valve today, (had to make a fitting with the correct thread) on starting the engine, instantly 2500 psi, now I think that is wrong, should be only approx.350 psi untill the steering wheel is moved or a remote lever pulled. (Is that correct? )

Indeed, what you are looking for is low pressure standby, originally it was 400/600psi, but this was found to be too low.
Set low pressure standby to 700psi.

I'm trying to lay my hands on a wiring diagram for a f/n/r so I can have a study of it.
I'm just not as familiar with them because basically I didn't have to fix many. They were much more reliable than the earlier f/r ones.
