Not getting long days now, so I’m going to make another start Monday and just keep plodding on, soon get another inch and that’s it.
only done 10% here. rest is bad blackgrass land. first appreciable rain was last Sunday. surely 7-8 days isn't long enough for bg to chit and emerge?? I know time is marching on, but …..

Problem I find is there are very few drying days in Nov so you might not turn a wheel for ages on our soils then it could take 3 weeks to emerge and it's battling slugs and crows and water all winter

There's a fine line between waiting long enough for BG and compromising winter wheat crops. Conditions are good at the moment if you wait until November on this land you could very easily end up with more blackgrass and wheat that has a lower GM than spring barley. The last 300ha will go in over the next 4-5 days allowing for late starts and early finishes because of dew and wet residue.

I agree @ajd132 , pre ems will do well now temps cooling, conditions good for drilling, it will be nov by the time it’s up, could get windy to spray and the weather forecasters are not accurate beyond 12 hrs if weather is changeable.

Also time for glyphonpre emergence, this week I’m going get drilled up.

What you need is my Frankenstein subsoiler , we made it when having the same problem as you . I don’t know what it weighs but it never fails to go in and stay in .

Drilling on hold here, tried to flatlift spring barley stubble today in front of plough, even with new points and additional weight on the flatlift it refused to go to ground. Heavy land farm that we have taken on, think previous farm manager was a bit keen and worked land too wet in spring. Tried to drive a piece of half inch rod into ground , needed a lump hammer. Serious rain needed.

Sprayed Roundup yesterday and drilling today into superb seedbed. Might be the sun but sure there is more BG than yesterday. Combi drill giving it all a headache but note to myself - roll and Preem as quick as possible, including Avadex!
