Simon Cherry Picker

I've "acquired" this to play with.

It wants a few little jobs here and there to make it right but it's in remarkably good shape.

My main question for anyone in the know is; the self leveling on the basket is slightly out, I know how it works with the compensation ram but I can't see any way to reset it, the newer machines I've been involved with have a lever for this.

Does anyone know before I start messing with it?

My tree surgeon friend has one that looks identical, I've just asked about it and he says that his is indeed a Simon, and there is a system for adjusting the auto level system, he did describe it to me but it's quite complex, involving opening and closing various taps in the hydraulic system while moving various booms at the same time, so if @TripleSix would like to PM me, my friend is happy to for me pass on his email address and he'll provide some written instructions and a diagram too.

i think simon merged with snorkel and make a lot of fire trucks under simon snorkel name look under electric boom lifts on snorkel uk website they may be able to help

Well many thanks @Goweresque
I figured it out from what you posted.

Looked at it for 5 mins, opened the valve by the compensation ram, raised the first boom a little and the basket sorted itself out.
Closed the valve.

Sorted!

There is a name from the past - had the Access Market to themselves in the day - Fire Engines, Local Authority, BT, Water Companies, etc etc all had them - but the company was a waste of space in the years leading to it going bust. I worked for a dealer who sold them in the latter days - what a shambles - when you rang for a price they had the check the exchange rate that day, as the range was made in USA, Ireland, & UK and Italy from memory - popular models were Topper, Boxer and some really weird looking machines! Think Terex may have bought the company as I have seen The Boxer in Terex White with decals . Old Toppers are still around , towable around 15 and 17 metres height. We sold a real weird machine, self propelled sit on the side low down, that went to work in a Salt Mine in Cheshire.

I believe this one I have is the Topper model.

Don't want to be a party pooper....but what happens when one of these elderly S/H cherry pickers breaks down whilst 30' in the air ?

Quite like the idea of a cheap one for building maintenance, but does cheap = disaster ?

Don't work alone.

I was a few years ago bringing down a fir from the top...dropped a part of a limb bit to close to the machine and it hit one of the safety stop buttons down on the base unit cut the engine out  didn't have mobile up with me after much cussing I managed to climb down part of the tree and the boom.. but that wasn't easy and pretty close to waiting until a passer by noticed..or I wasn't home for tea :D:unsure:
Twas nearly at full stretch as well...almost 12m ..up

It Put me off using them for tree work tbh after that episode I preffered to climb if at all possible .
