Kim was undermined by his comments being leaked and it sealed his fate, boris will be the next pm and couldnt publicly back kim against trump. People need to see the bigger picture of needing to keep a good relationship with america . This has turned into a boris witch hunt but instead should be a witch hunt into who leaked kims advice. Jeremy hunt backed kim because he knows he will not be pm so was just point scoring.

While your observation and view is understandable and makes practical sense - sycophantic though it is, there is a broader issue of precedence. Do you now agree the USA or any other government can in effect deselect the UKs appointed Ambassador and request their preferred choice of appointee. And Trumps reaction while understandable again fails to appreciate that Countries and Governments are above and beyond the individual. Though I appreciate Mr Trump seems to consider himself the Embodiment of the USA. Interesting times.

That’s a fair comment, but regardless, the man was inept. That said, I’d be hunting down the leaker; it should be an offence, unless it’s demonstrably in the public interest.

Both I would suggest. But as is often the case we do not exactly know the context of the various documents. And as I understand it many of the released papers go back to the very early days of the Trump administration. To me as a man who enjoys a Le Carre novel, it looks a set up.

Well, at my pay grade will not make much effect on me unless Mr Trump gets really annoyed and sends a Nuclear Warhead into South Lincolnshire or places a Tariff (his seemingly weapon of choice) on UK exports of Cauliflower to the USA.

No point in having an ambassador, whatever their views, in a country with a government, whatever the members views, do not interreact.

Yes, the relevant observation I expect. But then, I ponder, does it beg the question in future of Sovereignty and Taking back Control. Or were they just rhetoric. Must now go do something useful!!

Best wishes,

The option of expelling foreign representatives is always available.
Has been done many times in the past for various reasons.

It seems its more important to the press to implicate/smear boris over this because its trump involved than it is to object to the uk goverment over staying friends with the saudi's after there killing of a journalist. Mr darroch new his fate was sealed when his comments were leaked and also new he would have to be replaced because he was tainted goods

An ambassador has two roles in the modern world.
1. To represent Britain in a ceremonial sense. With modern communications our government has no need to have this intermediary, who in the distant past may have had to negotiate on a situation for days before he had further instruction.
2 . To feel the water in a country, to be able to have an ear on the ground which no amount of electronic communication can assess as well. They are given the role of meeting and greeting the great the good and the individual on the ground such as a cab driver or even farmer.
No matter how many times you looked at this forum would you have an idea of the real issues facing farming yet knock on a few doors you would soon get teal ideas from real people.
Hence the Ambassadors roll, it has always been thus and at one time were considered little better than useful spies, by their hosts.
The crucial thing is getting the real truth, not some la di dah sycophantic pepped up version , just in case it becomes public knowledge, doubtkess there are plenty of those puffs circulated.
Who ever becomes next PM would no doubt have found a need for his most skilful man in another plum posting shortly after, as being compromised his position would have been difficult to say the least.
I expect a position down under would have been very suitable where such comments would probably be seen as being positive :):):)

Boris deserved smearing because he was quite obviously undermining the Ambassador.
We can all be certain that there had to be a change after Trumps reaction but it should have been done at the UK governments leisure

Boris only is only concerned about what's best for Boris. And supporting the soon to retire UK ambassador against Trump would serve him no useful purpose.

I can't think of an example so will you please tell us all which non-lame-duck PM, or candidate to be PM, would be well advised to support a soon to retire and less than discrete ambassador against a US president, and what useful purpose it would serve?

My experience of bullies is to stand up to them , otherwise the bullying increases.
What bullying?he had a good go at trump and got found out so couldn’t do his job anymore,if he hadn’t resigned he should of been sacked and I bet if he had been a brexit supporter you and all the other remainers on here would of called for him to be sacked

His words were very average for the job, we only have to look at the cables released by Bradley Walsh, which use very much stronger terminology. I dread to think what the current US ambassador is sending home at the moment but I would think stupid , incompetent, idiot, prat would be some of the milder language.
Trump will be very much aware of this and is certainly no stranger to strong language.
I am very much aware that after these revelations it would have been difficult for any ambassador to continue in his post , although as far as I am aware no US Ambassador was removed after the Walsh leaks
