They shouldnt be much dearer than last year...if any....a lot of mule gimmer averages will be down this time,all depends on peoples mindset....last year mule gimmers were a big lump down so people were very depressed going into the ewe sales.
Cant really see them much cheaper.....but dont really see why they will be dearer, cant see the middle and bottom end dearer anyways but time will tell.

No,never thought i would see the day it was a buyers market,we kept being told there werent plenty around the previous few years when they were very dear....but there were plenty to satisfy demand last year.

Blackies are dear at Hexham.The show pens make silly money.They still tie coloured thread on their backs.

I reckon those ewes will always look good value if you compare with some of the bigger swale draft ewe sales further north, mind...
The first Draft ewe sale at Hexham last year was cheap.I bought some decent Swales for £25,but folk soon cottoned on,and the next sale was much dearer.Same farm,and his second draw were £40+.I dont think they will be cheap this year.
If you don't want top types then Dalmally is usually the place to go for a bit of value. The ewes there are usually off harder, wetter hills than the ewes that go through Stirling and Lanark. This means that the middle ground ewes downward, can often be got at cheaper money. Plus, it's a huge sale with a massive choice. Plus, it's a great place to visit, especially if you're lucky enough to get a good day for the drive.
What is the ewe trade like?
Wouldn't like to say overall. I bought ewes early and then headed for home . One lot around me which stopped at £58 last year, had the hammer dropped at £70. I'd think that @DB67 isnt far away, but there were still a lot of ewes to sell when I left. Gimmers were on another planet.
Ewes very dear at Middleton today....no Brexit worries in evidence... at one stage after lunch sale average was £20 up on the year.
