Store cattle still doing OK? And what was store lamb like

Store cattle were the dearest they have ever been and up on the last two weeks red hot trade, only things struggling were the very poor out of age/ breed sorts but having said that a run of Limx steers around the 44 months age mark that were still another 120 days off being ready for the one way trip sold easily around the £700/750 price mark, Fri steer trade was just off the charts.

Stirks the same, trade well up on the week for suckler bred sorts, steers would be £60/70 head dearer than a month ago and heifers up £20 head on the week with anything half decent £690, small dairy stuff possible a shade cheaper due to the time of year!

No idea on Store lambs as the farce that they are still sold on Friday afternoons is still happening even thou its fine to have a poultry sale for small holders on Saturdays again!

I thats it

Ewe trade hasnt really been on fire....a lot will have gone, they probably won't be any cheaper after the festival.
I've some early born tup lambs that I'd intended to take last Wednesday but we were chopping, just wondering if I should try Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or don't bother this week

480/500kgs ish

Heifers at those weights ought to easily be £1000-1100 head and the Fri steers could be anywhere between £900-1000 if not a shade more.

Thou of course it all depends on the day, @dinderleat had one hell of a trade for their Fri steers the other week at Sedge and trade has gone up again since then!

Oh slightly off track for this thread but how did you get on with your dairy cattle at Sedge the other day dinderleat? where you happy with trade?

I think calf trade although still great eased a touch last week, perhaps everybody was haymaking but a few centres were a touch back
Yes it certainly felt like it came back a bit.

Lets be honest if your buying calves then they definitely need to ease a bit but if your selling you want the trade to stay up.

Paying £500+ for a three week old calf is beyond my budget anyhow.

Yeah really pleased they sold well for the day, I was a little bit worried as they had been calved a while and were due to calve next March April. We averaged just under £1700 in the end and already had 4k of milk out of them.

That's good price even if they was a little lighter it would be a good price. Normally I would put them in shsed for few months and get them going then sell but think might be just aswel get rid now

I would sell the Fri steers first and see how you get on, if your happy with trade then sell the heifers, very little if anything in these store cattle currently unless the prime price moves upwards a decent amount but everything is so uncertain in these times anything could happen, it could easily drop 30ppk as go up another 30ppk thou that young whipper snapper aka northeastfarmer predicted £4 kilo and he is very rarely much off the mark with his predictions!

Fri steers will make more through the store ring at current prices, but with dead weight prices creeping up that may change picstocks up to 3.70
