Question
Currently doing the drying off trim. So far have lifted 170 sets of back feet. Very few issues. 5 with pre ulcer bruising from over growth. 4 with what might have become WL issues. No digi at all. So what foot bath regime can I get away with to maintain this situation? Currently formalin foot bath 3/4 times a week with a 4% solution.

2.5% now being recommended as adequate by our vet, little difference seen between 2.5% and 5% in recent studies.

Personally I’d keep doing it 3 days per week, especially if you’ve got DD on farm.

How about a farm investment, a newly launched farm has started taking investors who wants to invest in farm but don’t have time to do that. They take up your investment and you earn at the end of the farming session

Id recommend 4% 3/4 x week. Don't let your foot off the gas.

Your probably right. But isn’t your answer also a bit like “I can’t reduce the magic potion I’m feeding/ teat spraying etc etc just in case.”
Your right. Reduce number of times a week. According to @Rossymons post we would still use blanket antibiotics in dry cow therapy.
Formalin isn't nice stuff and if we can reduce our usage we will hopefully have it longer.

Digi isn't nice stuff either. And an IBC of formalin will last a long time. In the scheme of things it doesnt cost a lot.

You're wanting to reduce your time at your quietest time of year. A time of year that the risk of DD is probably at its highest. Do you really want to risk foot health for the sake of a few mins or a couple quid?

Why not try at grazing when the risk is less anyway?

What do I know, I'm off to point at the moon for magic solutions.

It’s the other way round here. Since using envirobed we no longer get digi in the winter. We are much more likely to get it in September when the few remaining non concrete tracks begin to deteriorate.
