One of my client's winter wheat fields following spring barley with heavy pre-harvest losses. The outside 3m was cultivated but not sown as this area will extend a stewardship margin. Shows the level of volunteers. It was a carpet of barley volunteers following sowing before the wheat emerged but the weather never allowed a glyphosate application. Following a very open and frank discussion about the options the decision was made to leave until the wheat was strong enough for a strong herbicide - 'hit it as hard as you can, I don't want to have to re-drill!' 1.2l/ha Horus (Atlantis) + 0.25l/ha Kipota (Topik) + 1l/ha Bio-power, applied around 5/11/20. The herbicide has certainly given the volunteers a big headache - only time will tell if it has been enough.

May be better off banging some N on and let it kill itselfI did think of ethofumesate but it's murder expensive no?
Topik + Atlantis I've seen done before because of blackgrass. Didn't work.
Nothing done in Lincolnshire is ever wrong, or so they tell me.Drilling spring barley now not far from the Caythorpe NIABTAG trial sites. Are we wrong?
That's cost £ 30 an acre if not moreView attachment 924526

Sitting down luckilyDid it hurt when you fell over?
Sitting down luckily
He had already seen this trial ....Need a stiff drink when the agronomist sends that recommendation sheet. The agronomist will have turned off his phone.
Less than £22/acre. It was completely the growers decision after an honest and frank discussion! That's cost £ 30 an acre if not more
