Ewe nuts

Just had first lot of Ewe Rolls ....18% , CF 5.54% , CAsh 7.75%
Desc order .... Wheat , Barley , Hi-pro Soya , Sugar BP , Rape , Wheat feed , Molasses ,CaCo3 , soya oil , vits & mins .
It worked well last year at about 2/3rds of conc input , so worked out cheaper / ewe overall ....

Looks like they are good ewe rolls, which firm please? I like to see wheat, barley and soya in the top 3.

4 or 5 to 1 part Soya isn't too far adrift . Give a roughly 16-18% ration . Just get the nutrition book out and play with the numbers on a calculator .....
The above ration is Estate Country Animal Feeds in Worcs {ECF Ltd) . Don't know how far they deliver / sort , but it's a seriously good ration , as is their other grub . They took a stand and don't use cheap fillers and crap , but obviously it's not 'bottom' dollar ..... And the Rolls are stuck together well !! Most Rolls are total crap ...

1/3 oats , sugar beet pulp and dark grains. Add soya closer to lambing. Job done

This!!!

I can't stress enough. It really is as simple as that. These fancy feeds are a con, IMO. They're just very convenient.

I don't use Soya, and I incorporate a liquid feed, but Oats Beetpulp and distillers wheat (currently struggling to get my preferred Maize) grains mixed @ 16%

unbelievable how well ours did on this, changed the ration midway through and disappointed after changing over. Lesson learnt

As the saying goes - You can't improve on perfection.

Did you (was it you??) try including liquid feed/molasses again after I started? The grain definitely needs to be rolled for it to work best

whilst i agree with you on a commercial basis , the many of the fancy feeds on the whole , are aimed at pedigree breeders , and have all sorts of additives and ingredients to make them eat more so they seem to grow better and will be appreciated in the sale rings
, we used barley soya SBP for years easy cheap , we are using a nut these days because of time constraints , But i am trying the one from carrs mentioned earlier in the thread , with soya maize as main inclusion and have never seen ewes/ lambs so content will def be getting a bin full next winter . was similar price to for-farmers as well

You're right...

But you should know me well enough by now to know I've only got a commercial hat on my head  (y)

Morning
Looking for a little help, trying to do a comparison on which ewe nut is better to feed to our ewes this year. There is only a few pounds difference in price but seems a big difference in the ingredients. Just wondering what other people’s views are on each of the feeds.
Many thanks

I took over from my father in sorting out his sheep feed this year, I requested many formulations from all suppliers I could think of, some wouldn’t even give us a list of formulations, the label below is a 20% from Davidsons.. I don’t think any other formulation in Scotland can get near this. Priced at £272. I am happy to be corrected if there is a better one out there. I was amazed the oat feed/hulls that were included in many rations and even urea in some as well, some people are basically feeding sh*te to their sheep

That seems very cheap for a nut where the top ingredient is soya.

And yes, I agree on the sh*te in some feeds. Sometimes no better than the forage already in the rack, but that's what you get when price per ton is the key decider for a lot of sheep farmers.:banghead:

Don't think it will be beaten tbh.used Carr's last year but back to Davidson's this year.

Its £266 for 12ton blower bulk.

Does the palm kernel really need to be in it though? Ive asked them to take it out but they wont.

Anyone got the harbro top 20/21% protein roll spec for a comparison?
Palm kernel below molasses so very low inclusion, agree would be better out however I’d rather have that, than oat feed/bran in diet. The dairy next door said PK can be good for fat in milk where as oat feed, urea does nothing for his cows.

I agree. Its what i use. Start them on ewelac though. Also unsure on wheat feed. Been told wheat is good. But wheatfeed is more or less a filler? Can someone explain? Maybe like soya and soya hulls i guess?
