Of course it’s half arsed, it offers farmers no real premium.RT is half arsed.
Personally I think RT assured animals should be born on an assured holding.I recall reading sone where on here or twitter that if livestock spent a certain number of days on a uk farm it could become RT assured ?
is this correct? the RT wikipedia pahe suggests not as does a lot of their advertising and FAQ’s on google etc
can someone explain if / how this all works please ?

Perhaps tightening the standards would bring that rather than trying to make everyone RT.Of course it’s half arsed, it offers farmers no real premium.
If it offered a proper premium and didn’t seek to be a monopoly, just a premium to make it worthwhile for those who wanted to join it could add whatever rules it liked and let farmers make a choice on what was best for their buisness
HypocritePersonally I think RT assured animals should be born on an assured holding.
Milk could come from an animal that isn't born on a RT holding as long as its kept to RT standards for a period before it can be RT.
This to me would be better than worrying about if the workman's accommodation is acceptable condition .
perhaps stopping organic farmers using non organic straw, tighten the standardsPerhaps tightening the standards would bring that rather than trying to make everyone RT.
Less is more
havent you overlooked your cull cows ? - remember you might need to buy in oneday .Perhaps tightening the standards would bring that rather than trying to make everyone RT.
Less is more
a hypocritehavent you overlooked your cull cows ? - remember you might need to buy in oneday .
so one rule for dairy farmers another for beef farmers and you are which ?
I had cows that had spent over 10 years on an fully organic holding for all their lives bar a month.havent you overlooked your cull cows ? - remember you might need to buy in oneday .
so one rule for dairy farmers another for beef farmers and you are which ?
But do you agree with that rule?. Those animals spent 99.9% of their 10+ yr lives kept on an organic system the same as the rest of the herd. Shouldn't they be classed just as organic as the rest of the herd or an animal born organic but killed after 3 monthsI had cows that had spent over 10 years on an fully organic holding for all their lives bar a month.
They went as conventional.
Those are the rules.
you like rules when they work for you don't youI had cows that had spent over 10 years on an fully organic holding for all their lives bar a month.
They went as conventional.
Those are the rules.
So what thats organic you volunteered for it ,as far as I understand it no other farmers have tried to deprive you of marketing options or exclude you when you chose to sell those cows through the normal route have they ?I had cows that had spent over 10 years on an fully organic holding for all their lives bar a month.
They went as conventional.
Those are the rules.
Sorry but your point being? So what thats organic you volunteered for it ,as far as I understand it no other farmers have tried to deprive you of marketing options or exclude you when you chose to sell those cows through the normal route have they ?
Have other farmers tried to exclude you from the normal market options .?Sorry but your point being?
He objected to payments for conversion to organic because he wanted to keep his marketing options to himselfHave other farmers tried to exclude you from the normal market options .?
Yes through the organic standards as I previously mentioned.Have other farmers tried to exclude you from the normal market options .?
can someone explain if / how this all works please ?
That doesn’t appear to be the route RT are taking, currently it seems to be all about cornering the market and getting everyone on board but offering very little to the farmers it conscripts.Perhaps tightening the standards would bring that rather than trying to make everyone RT.

Well that route doesn't seem very popular! That doesn’t appear to be the route RT are taking, currently it seems to be all about cornering the market and getting everyone on board but offering very little to the farmers it conscripts.
