Are these basically a Steyr? How reliable is their CVX in something knocking on for 20 years old with plenty of hours on it?
Its a very reliable tractor, yes it is a Steyr , sisu engine zf rear end (carraro front axle that does need to be looked after ! )Separate gearbox hyd oils . stepper motor in gearbox can be trouble but not a huge job as gearbox comes out the side . These tractors were way ahead of there time when they came out and are still a nice drive. The ZF smatic gearbox is still being used by Deutz

Why not ?
A 6290 or even a 6480 dynashift will certainly hold their money

For engine longevity though, a Sisu engined one is a better bet. 3655MF, 8130 (though not likely to appreciate, stonking engines) 8220 Dynashift (actually usable) or if you're looking a bit newer, 6490, 7490 Tier2 (our 7490 was £17,000 in 2019 with 10,000hrs having spent 4000hrs sat on a slurry pump, now on 10700hrs. It needed brakes when it came, and we've done a couple of little jobs, but hell it does go well) A cheap oddball that would do the job with a decent motor is a MF2720

More likely to be cheap power with a Sisu engine on board is a Valtra 8350 - proper torque.

Others I'd consider is an MWM engine in a Renault or early Fendt, or a Cummins.

By far the cheapest solution for pumping slurry, water, powering a grain drier etc is either electric, or a stationary engine.

Is that gearbox related to the C Matic in Claas Axion?

Yes I loved driving the 8550 that we had, I’d think you’ll struggle to find a 8950? Don’t often see them for sale
Sadly true. I’ve been looking for years and you hardly see them over here more Eastern Block countries that seem to have them and they’ve either been flogged to death or want 40K for them. As much as I want one, that’s a little steep for now
