A strange thread, reminds me why I post so little on here anymore.
Thread title should read "I am a bit disillusioned by my customers and think a lot of them are whingers".
Some great lines to promote TFF
TFF members are depressed multimillionaires ................. the worst type of depression !
TFF members could win gold at moaning
TFF members are resentful and mean spirited.
Maybe we should think of other members on here as friends and treat them as such. That might make us all feel a bit better.

possibly a bit selfish ? I don’t spent my life doing what just makes me happy, I have to consider others around me especially wife and children……… I was guilty of getting that wrong in the past and it cost me a divorce ! That made no one happy !

I grew up with parents that worked too much / were tied to a herd of cows and grateful as I am for the rewards that their hard work bought I would rather have had more time with them

Now come on, you are not a martyr for going on holiday!

reading that post it full of the kind of resentment/ bitterness and negativity I’m talking about

“how easy other have it”. “How dare anyone go on holiday“. Etc …. Etc

why can we not just be happy for others rather than resentful of them ?

everyone has there problems, grass is certainly not always greener and frankly why spent time looking or worrying about how others live, focus on your own life and wellbeing

as an aside I met a guy last week, the kind you refer to who has made “easy” money for years in finance recruitment………. The last 18 months has devastated his good business, he’s broke , selling his house, car etc taking his kids out of school ………….. count YOUR blessings
Thats the way it goes Chief , nobody ever sees the sudden turn in the road .....
All of a sudden the the wife has got fat , the kids have turned into obnoxious entitled idiots , the suave well heeled non farming friends turn out to be conmem who have taken the shirt off your back ..... Suddenly the Greek islands are well off the agenda and youre lucky to get a long weekend stuck in a caravan in Shitley on sea in the middle of a force 10 hurricane !! So indeed count your blessings .....
And always remember that mental health is way to IMPORTANT to be approached with broad sweeping statements .

nothing wrong with Bournemouth……..a lot wrong with sharing it with 2 million others however for me

travel restrictions have proven that the UK doesn’t cope too well if a % don’t holiday abroad. And why shouldn’t they do so if it’s what they want to do

well, i wont be going on holiday anyday soon , small farm and one man band theres not been many opportunities for one over the years ,did manage 4 or 5 when the children were young and 2 or 3 since but that's about it .
Covid ruined the Wife's business, long running struggles with ignorant people as i mention in previous posts ....etc
Its very difficult to get the right help to sort some issues i find, (im sure others do as well) and its not for want of asking, ether .
Too many responsibilities at home cant run away from them im afraid, well i dont anway.

Back in the sevrnties, eighties, and nineties, life was simple
Grow the biggest crop or animal, get paid a decent price . MAF was there to help you
Rents were reasonable.
Then blair got in and we got bse foot and mouth, farm assurance, all manner ofbeaurocratic bollox
Crap prices for ten yrs
And now land is unaffordable
Is it any wonder we are depressed?

I agree, the job has changed and not for the better in any shape or form I can think of .

I know not everyone will be able or even want to do it, but for myself i have cut down on the amount of fencing work i do off farm, yes financially i'm not as well off, but i don't crave nor want modern machinery or material items, we as humans have become far too all consuming, the satisfaction that brings is very short lived, i lost my mother just over a year ago, and although i spent a lot of time with her and i don't have any regrets, it made me realise that father needs me more than ever now, he's still reasonably active still at 79 which i'm grateful for, i've started growing veg this year to, which i find very rewarding, i see so many around me chasing the ££'s all the time, most of them are stressed and to me seem blinkered in what life should be about, if you want happiness and contentment in your life stop looking over the hedge as to what other people are doing, make time for your family, stop stressing about doing all the jobs that need doing around the farm because you'll never win that battle,
It's not for everyone i know, but it works for me.
I agree, the job has changed and not for the better in any shape or form I can think of .
But everything has, trucking and plant certainly have.
We should all take a minute, every now and then, to look at our lives, look at where they are. And where they could be and decide if we're happy with it?
I get to play with tractors, trucks and diggers every day, most of the time I'm like a kid in a sweet shop.
We all have black dog days as long as the good days are more than the bad I'm winning IMHO

it’s essential imo for solid mental health, does not have to be fancy or expensive but it has to be done
Not sure about the essential, not for everyone at least although I do think it’s good to get away from the usual day to day stuff.
Over recent weeks I’ve spent a few days helping a mate put a shed up and do some concreting and have thoroughly enjoyed it, work, but something away from home and a bit different.
When I was younger used to work as an extra man for a contractor when he was busy, again got me away from the usual day to day stuff and saw how others did things, both good and bad.
As the old saying goes, a change is as good as a rest.

Thanks for that. I don’t need marriage advice from somebody with the experience of one self inflicted failure to draw from. 🤣🤣

Not selfish at all, my wife and I are in business together, we make decisions together and for the most part enjoy that. It’s not just me doing whatever I like to be happy.

If it’s any of your business the main reason I have no yearning to get on a plane is because my wife will be wound up and worried about it for about 2-3 weeks before we leave and she would be just the same all the time we are away thinking about the return flight.

So, rather than selfish, I don’t want to go abroad for that reason. I absolutely love skiing and thought Canada was superb. I would go to each every year if I could. But drag my wife along with me? No. THAT would be selfish. I like to think I’m more thoughtful than that.

All said with a smile on my face, as always.

Any landowner has seen a ten fold increase in their primary asset in the last 30 years, regardless of whatever mess you might of made of the farming business.

You might argue that is a change for the better if you’re in that position? Value is all relative of course, until you chose to cash out. If you sell to buy somewhere else, it’s just moving bigger numbers.
