I head yesterday that the uk has the highest virus infection rate in the world, around 40000 a day, but who cares anymore,

It's the new flu, now that there's a vaccination policy we just have to get on with things and avoid overwhelming the NHS.
Mainly because we are doing the testing, dont test dont get positives
Exactly , spoke to the french pharmacist last time we needed a travel test , he said without the travellers he'd be out of work

There are a lot of people on TFF who seem to think the UK and it's populace are doing something other societies are not or that we are somehow super vulnerable to the virus. The only difference is we are announcing our cases and testing rates.
The problem with that is it gives the idiots in the media and some of the general public something to cause more panic over

Every day they give out the death rate for COVID but they never add any context
They never say that it is less than 6% all deaths August just gone of 40,460 deaths, 2144 included COVID on the death certificate.
We do have a pretty average standard of journalist these days
Imvho they would have to raise the standard a lot to be anywhere near average.

It's working perfectly. They wanted this to happen now, not in Dec/Jan when the NHS is usually flat out.

I have NOT trusted our main stream media for many years,and on covid they are out on a limb trying to damage an already fragile economy.
Indeed , a guy on the news yesterday saying Spain are in deep sh!t financially , bigger than the crash of 2007
Funny that, the Chinese seem to panic like mad as soon as there are a few cases & have now administered over 2.2 billion doses of vaccine, seeing as they know so much more about this than we do you have to wonder why they don't simply use the UK's imaginary successful herd immunity solution?

I don't understand; all adults can have the vaccine in this country if they want it. We might have been a bit slower to approve 12-15's but they can have it now. What are the Chinese doing differently?

I'd suspect the Chinese have mandated vaccination of the whole population, they have control measures still in place, lock down cities/Regions as required when there is the slightest hint of an outbreak.....the joys of living in a communist state!

Our control measures rely on furlough being reintroduced. How can you mandate masks on the bus but keep nightclubs open?
Here in the UK the English government decided whatever the outcome or consequences to let the virus run wild & simply hope for the best, the Chinese on the other hand clamp down really hard on any cases that arrive so it does not spread to the wider population & are vaccinating everyone as quickly as they can, why?
Simply saying that those that want the vaccine can have it does not stop or even slow the spread, as it is rife in schools it will spread to the wider population as the vaccine loses efficacy.
