If you read longtown's report on cull cows makes me laugh every time, go's like new buyer present more cows required, they only had 2 on Thursday, what would the trade be like if they got 4:unsure:
Yes, remember an auctioneer telling I should bring him my cull ewes. I said last week I took 125 to Longtown and had a bumper trade. Then asked them what the trade would have been like if I brought them to them, doubled their entry and halved their quality 🤣

Not through Oct cos he said the price difference wasn't worth travelling down for .

He was correct that up untill 3 weeks ago cattle at Sedge in both the stirk and store rings were one hell of a trade but 3 Saturdays ago it dropped sharply in all rings + the calve ring as well.

( store ring it dropped £80 head from the start to the end of the sale )

I did not post any prices that weekend as i thought it might have just been a one off due to people being busy on Maize/ grass silage and drilling etc thou it turns out trade has been much less all the last 3 Saturdays.

I personally think the store trade will lift again, not sure thou if that will be pre or post Xmas, also i would not be surprised to see a very strong store/stirk cattle trade Next April/ May!

On the market reports, the one's i read for Sedge the previous 2 Sat's to this did not reflect the trade at all in real terms, you only need to look at the top/average prices to previous weeks to see that!

Aye, there’s plenty of locals can’t fathom why my sheep go back too Bentham or Longtown. If I turned up with 450 scotch bred sheep at any marts within 50 miles of here I’d flood the place and get my arse kicked too boot!! It’s all about knowing where your grade of stock sells! 👌😉

I think marketing is the word for it and a lot of farmers overlook this when it comes to selling their stock.

Most can't even be bothered to run the clippers over there shity arse store lambs let alone sell them into a market that they would be better in or even lot them into groups that buyers want!

It makes my pee boil when they moan about the price but present dirty clarty lambs for sale. Grandad would kick my arse too the end of the lane and back if I tried selling a lamb that wanted clipping and wasn’t done!!!

Judging By the likes you got for that it may not be quite so many can't be bothered as you think let alone most
