Another thing to bear in mind when reading french prices - a Limousin heifer is exactly that, a pure bred Limousin mother and a pure Limousin father its not a cross breed or got an dairy breeding in it at all. For Label Rouge that bull needs all his paperwork too.

Its been years since I was back in the UK but when we farmed there when someone said they had limousin/charolais/angus etc cows more often than not they were cross bred in some way . May be its changed.

We were on an Angus scheme with Waitrose in the 1990s and only thing Angus about it was the bull.

Actually, the idiots we bought this place from used an unregistered bull, so some offspring have 34 on the front of the passport but 39 on the back. We kept the odd good ones as cows, and their calves still have 39 on the back. Doesn’t affect the price at all

No just further east than you with red cows in white cow country. I was frequently told not to buy lims here because it would be hard to sell them. Turns out they are still saleable and for similar money. My point was that my non label rouge beasts seem to sell for similar prices to the label rouge beasts you are speaking of but with out the hassle of the paper work and rules.

I came here partly to get away from assurances . But, my Czech wife seems to love rules and regulations (it’s their normal upbringing) so she got us into it... and fully deals with it. But there isn’t much to it at all
