Calculating fertiliser cost per unit

I was discussing fertiliser price comparisons yesterday with a solid user and myself being a Yara liquid user were struggling in work out how many kg of N per tonne are in their N37 (except for 370kg/1000lt)

I use N37 & work in litres. Specific gravity is 1.29 so 1 litre weighs 1.29 kg. 100 litres/ha roughly = 37 kg/ha of N

I've been offered 46% urea at around £0.97 per unit does that sound a fair price right now? If so it's about £36.00 per acre cheaper than 34.5%n for us on a crop of wheat.

Bargain, just bought some urea at £1.60/unit. Nitram around £2/unit when I bought

I want to cost out various fertiliser blends to work out the various costs per unit. for example how much per unit of N is 34.5% @ £290 per tonne?

My calculation is £10.01 per unit. Am I correct?

Nitram is 34.5% N which means there is 34.5% N per tonne = 345kgN per tonne

in old money that’s 34.5 units per hundredweight (50kg)
Or 17.25kg/N per hundredwieght

so
At £290/tonne the N costs 84.05p per N
Or
42.02p per unit

so 4 cwt/acre = 4 x 34.5 = 138 units x 42.025p = just shy of £58/acre

1 tonne = 20 cwt so £290. / 20 = £14.50/cwt x 4 = £58.

so using the new season price of £635 (ish)
Those 4 cwt/acre now = £127/acre

This is a bit out of date so you’ll have to double some figures. But it gives a comparison across products.

Sorry can't get liquid AN at 34.5%.

You can however get liquid urea which would be 20% N or if you start adding AN to the mix or AmSul you can get various other grades like 28%N, 30%N, 22N 12SO3 etc etc.

Last price I had was for 28N that worked out at £205/Mt, or 73p/kg
Or 27N 5SO3 at £210/mt
.......
Que everyone asking how does that compare to buying it in the cubic mtr...... Just break it down into how many kg of N you are buying.

Just over £700 M3 for 32N + 9S03 last week. Isn't there about 2.35 MT I'm a cubic metre?

I make that 42p a unit….. 34.5 units in 50Kg bag
20 bags per ton
so 690 units per ton
£290/690 = £0.42
