anyone want to hazard a guess what 1k tonnes of forage Maize will be worth to sell this harvest in a drought hit area that has knocked a lot of dairy maize crops?

I am not really interested in getting the last few £1s out, just a bullpark figure really
Unless you need/ want to sell it now i would forget about it for a few weeks!

Because unless we get some serious rain for a month and then an indian summer in the last 10 days of October a lot of both beef and esp dairy farms will be biting your hands off to buy it come Nov onwards.

No end of dairy posters on TFF have already posted that as things stand they will run out of silage at Xmas and this is 300 to 900 cow herds!

What baler you got?
.....sorry for late reply ,phone went flat. 445 Welger . ... took me hr and half to bale 26 bales . Got the rest done with a Kuhn baler later on but he struggled and the bales are a bit delicate . Chappie in field next door also struggled with a big square baler,a Krone I think . He gave up and came back at half nine and was flying then .

For a long term relationship on my costings I can get a good margin growing a 15-18t/acre crop at £45/ tonne, this year it will be a sellers market, if it doesn't rain in the next few weeks especially so, therefore you could probably get more.

got 7 acres we could cut, for hay, just debating the value, over letting the dairy cows trampling it down, its been grazed 4 times, but would make some nice hay, value wise, any bodies guess.

We cut and baled what I would call stewardship ground for haylage, not been cut for 25 years only grazed.
Just been given field to cut foc and a large block to graze at a very good price.

Gone from a possible shortage to a surplus in two weeks.

I'd still cut any surplus.

Oat straw, bit grassy. In the swath, how much per bale should it be? As in I pay to have it baled and pay the man X per bale for the straw. I was thinking £5-6 a 4ft round was right? Put it at £10/bale sat in the field.
