Aga went out last night, the cold?

Old solid fuel converted to oil aga had gone out this morning, just got round to tinkering with it thinking oil pipe had carboned up, but no it’s clean and oil is flowing freely, can’t see any reason why it would have gone out. Would it have anything to do with the cold last night? It hit below -5° at least, and a stretch of the oil line from the tank is completely exposed.

Yes, probably the cure. Where we are west / south west would be 99% of the wind felt so it's only once in a while.
Be careful fitting a cowl . We had been advised to have one of those spinning types fitted to prevent the occasional down draught , over time it weakened the chimney stack and loosened the chimney pot which could have had serious consequences if it hadnt been noticed. Our converted from solid fuel to kero aga( must have been done over 40yrs ago) has a similar problem in severe frosts its usually the filter on the outside fuel tank that needs changing if its not the feed pipe into the wicks bunging up with carbon. Find ensuring additive is added on filling helps that problem which still happens but not as often so can get away with a pre winter clean although we usually yurn ours off during summer but wouldnt be without it in winter

Was out again this morning, but it was even colder last night, as cold as it ever gets here, was very still too, it’s a big long flue up an old chimney in a north facing gable end, I wonder if it just got cold enough to choke it?

Hi
If flue is blocked (down draught)? the kitchen will be full off black carbon smuts.
Got the T shirt.

On very close inspection, I think this says ‘the burner on this appliance should not be lit when hot’ 😂

Incidentally we did have two jackdaws down another chimney yesterday! I got a panicked phone call from the wife screaming “there’s two ravens in the sitting room!” 🤣🤣 I doubt it dear
We have an old solid fuel Rayburn that only gets lit when it's desperate needs. Two crows were stuck in there last week.

The vent on the flue box alters the draw you have. Open it to decrease the draw.
The plate plug also alters the draw in the fire. If it's running too hot alter the flat face of the plug to be inline with the upright part in the flue. If you want more draw have the plug at right angles to the upright.

That’s good as thats exactly what I’ve done, wheel is closed (was quite open) and plug is open, seems to be burning steady now, hopefully stays that way
