i blame governments lack of regard for food security. - we had loads of banana until SFI was dreamt up

BPS kept us in Bananas - now all t he UK's Banana farms are growing dam bird food

@Bossfarmer you were right Dam Brexit dam SFI
childish..... is there a "shortage"?
on a serious note produce we can grow here is being reduced as the population increases, let this sentence sink in, repeat it to yourself daily

taxpayers are paying farmers.........to increase food inflation

if thats not morally and logically backwards what is

There's a banana tree down South Devon that fruits.
Despite their size Banana plants are not trees, but a herbaceous shrub. They need massive amounts of water and nutrients that are usually given in a liquid form added to the drip feed irrigation system.

When eaten they will provide you with a Potassium boost. But might not be a good food if you are a Diabeteic, Pre-diabetic or have Heart issues.

Bananas are often loaded onto ship, whilst still green. They then flood the hold with Imazaquin gas that ripens them and turns them yellow.
If your tomatoes won’t ripen, add them to a bowl of bananas and the Imazaquin gas will come out of the bananas and ripen the tomatoes.
Imazaquin was also added to CCC and sold as Meteor, to enhance its PGR activity. What the Imazaquin did was to stop all plant growth for about a week.

In case you missed it, there is also a chickpea shortage... available in tins but hard to find dried packs.
India ( our largest chickpea market ) still has a 68% import duty on chickpeas, so there are plenty of chickpeas here looking for alternate homes if you're interested

slightly off topic, but that raises an interesting question

I read all the time on TFF about concerns that the UK is “forced” to accept food imports, even if they don’t meet your particular standards ( I don’t understand that at all myself, as a grain producer my produce & production methods HAVE to meet the standards of the importing country, as they simply won’t buy it otherwise ? 🤷‍♂️), but India has managed to maintain a 68% import duty on chickpeas ( mainly Australia & Canada, being the 2 largest suppliers ) for a number of years, to “protect” its farmers . . .

why does India have more control over food imports than the UK ?
