Banana shortage

Despite their size Banana plants are not trees, but a herbaceous shrub. They need massive amounts of water and nutrients that are usually given in a liquid form added to the drip feed irrigation system.
Bananas being grown in Cyprus here:

When eaten they will provide you with a Potassium boost. But might not be a good food if you are a Diabeteic, Pre-diabetic or have Heart issues.

Bananas are often loaded onto ship, whilst still green. They then flood the hold with Imazaquin gas that ripens them and turns them yellow.
If your tomatoes won’t ripen, add them to a bowl of bananas and the Imazaquin gas will come out of the bananas and ripen the tomatoes.
Imazaquin was also added to CCC and sold as Meteor, to enhance its PGR activity. What the Imazaquin did was to stop all plant growth for about a week.
Tractor's a long way from home, Bathgate I believe. Love the exhaust.

You’d be surprised what modern kit they have in Cyprus, including Fendts!
But like us, they would waste the opportunity of using an old tractor on a irrigation pump.

The reason it has such a big exhaust is that it is very close to a restaurant called Oniro by the sea, right by the Edro III shipwreck. Customers were complaining about the noise the old girl was making.

ask them if they are ok for bananas or the great british lamb shortage 🤣. they will care less about that than badgers
if not sure if your aware but there is currently a squeeze on household incomes in the uk with rent and interest rate rises some people are genuinely struggling to pay bills, meat in general is a staple is uk weekly shopping for many as a high quality protein source and important for feeding a young family, not just lamb but beef also,

both have rocketed in price and helped fill my pockets which is good for me but bad for the uk taxpayer who pays you to set productive land aside and me an increased price due to reduced supply......are you getting it yet............

not my problem matey, maybe mention it to government ??

as a farmer I will keep saying this - food is too cheap and if food was of a value that reflected the investment skill and risk that was involved in growing it we would need no subsidies

My problem is running a viable and sustainable business so I can feed my family

Cost of living crisis you're having a laugh, just been to Asda struggled to get through the door because of all the people waiting at the macdonalds that's in the entrance. When I got in I found plenty of bananas, they were actually cheaper than last week. Fruit and veg are cheap and if really on a budget the reduced price section was full of good stuff. Various pizzas in the £2.50 ish price range that take 15 to 20 minutes in an oven but people seem to prefer domino's and the likes delivered already cooked at £10 to £15 a go. A pack of pasta for 75p
The real problem these days is people getting their priorities wrong.

So are you saying you don't want more for your produce? You'd rather prices fell to below cost of production to help the nation?

^^^. reality

and even £2.50 is expensive for Pizza vs what it can be, you can make your own for a fraction of that cost from the basic ingredients .......... and actually it will be a LOT more healthy as well

Many people are lazy and have priorities all wrong

you may say that but its not easy for young families not, the cost of property eats up most of their income

i dont know about you but i dont eat processed crap like pizza unless its a sat night, i have meat with every main course as does my family, the affect of price rises on my weekly butchers order is undeniable,

its a good thing im getting the uplift of livestock prices but the public isnt theyre paying you to feed wild birds

The London based news presents a distorted picture of life in Britain, average house price of xxx, xxx when for many affordable housing is available. No one wants to start at the bottom and work there way up these days. In the northern city where I am now plenty of houses for 100,000 and less up for sale, just up the road the ever expanding estate of houses at 250,000 and up are all sold off plan.
