Cattle Does anyone play music to animals?

I am working on a new BBC CHILDREN'S program (hence the lightheartedness) that is looking for farmers who believe that music helps the animals and improves their mood. And who would potentially be happy for us to film on their farm. If anyone does this please could they email me with what kind of music they believe works best. If you would be happy for us to film. Also if you could let me know where you are based that would also be really helpful. Thanks very much!

Not what you are wanting, but I have Radio 1 on for weaned foals as I reckon if they can put up with that, they'll tolerate most things! Also had it on for a pair of breeding goshawks which, being forest dwellers, are very noise sensitive. The music drowned out sounds that might otherwise have disturbed them!

Sorry!:(

My shepherd dog has a wireless on a timer clock set for early morning and half an hour at night while she has her tea.

It's a carry over from her predecessor who used to bark at first light until he was let out for work :singing:- not much of a problem at this time of the year, but a right pain in the @rse in the summer when it gets light so early.

I'm sure there was a farmer who had the most beautiful operatic singing voice who sang arias to his cows at milking.
This is going back aeons, but he was on local telly singing with Benjamin Luxton. Sans cows, unfortunately.

Dad would whistle hymn tunes and tunes from the National Songbook as he went about his work. He had a lovely manner with stock. I tend to talk to stock, but do sometimes warble to an uncritical audience.

If egbert thinks he's unphotogenic, then saints preserve anyone who points a camera in this direction ... :alien:

I keep a radio playing in my pocket, all the time. The animals know were I am and it makes it feel like I've got company.
My mates mother use to complain about have him having Radio 1 blasting away in the parlour but he swore the milk dropped every time she milked and put Foster & Allen on!

Years ago when I worked for a machinery dealership, one of our customers with a pretty large pig unit played classical music (mainly radio 3) to his stock. He used to set up old mains radios above the pig-pens. He also gave them balls and toys to play with long before some academics did the same thing as part of a research project. The farmer was convinced that soothing music and toys helped reduce tail biting, stock losses and vets bills. My fitters always commented that his pigs were quieter and calmer than on any of the other pig farms they visited.
