Things TFF can do to help through the C19 crisis

So we have been looking at things we can do with what resources we have to try and help our industry function as normally as is possible though these very difficult times

so far we have come up with the following -

www.classifieds.farm will become free to all existing dealer users and any new users that want to list machinery for sale, With sales staff working from home or stuck in depots this maybe a way they can continue to operate and help farmers find the used machinery they need over the next few months. Users can access all features 100% free of charge (no catches) including the video walk round which helps with physical viewing etc - contact @Mark Hatton who is TFF's new Farm Classifieds manager for any assistance or for new users to get set-up

FCN / Adlington trust - we have always given 10% of our banner innovatory away FOC to these valuable charity's we will increase this and we are also looking add adding FCN councillors who would chat via private message to anyone who wants to through these extra stressful time

Online shows - with so many events cancelled we are working with manufactures and media agents to bring online virtual machinery shows live to TFF - format still under discussion but some great ideas have come out so far, anyone interested contact @Chris F

Online livestock auctions - we have investigated providing a faculty to allow livestock auctions ti take place, we could have something set up very quickly if demand existed, any auction house interested pease get in touch with me and we could make it happen

www.marketplace.farm is available for new vendors unable to sell via their traditional methods to use, we can't offer it for free as there are significant admin costs but we can get new vendors set up for free and keep fees minimal , far lower than amazon or eBay etc - anyone interested pm @Lucy @ Farm Marketplace

We are investigating other ideas and if you have any suggestions please let me know, remember we are a small team and don't have loads of cash to splash about on things and like all businesses are suffering the effect of c19 ourselves right now but we will do whatever we can

Did you see the thread where I suggested mask donations? Only need to be ffp2 and could be a good bit of uk ag promotion.

Biggest thing to help would be a "Facts" thread.

Moderators could post the verified facts on things like:

Who/what is classed as an essential occupation or essential supplies (OH panicking about horse feed)
What can cannot be delivered to or picked up from farms and how to deal with same.
Rules on Public access (what if you have a RoW through your farmyard.)

The second biggest casualty in the current situation is truth. As a society we have gone from "a bloke in the pub said...." to "Someone on the internet said...." which allows misinformation and panic to run rife.

Horse Feed should be OK as pet shops are allowed to carry on... If you can buy stuff for a Goldfish should be able to get Horse Feed.

Loads of so called experts, know it alls quoting figures off Facebook, who don't actually have a clue.

Then theres the doom mongers telling us we're all going to die because of what's happening in Italy and Spain.

Tff isn't a nice place at the moment in my opinion.

The virus certainly brings out the worst in people and shows there true character.

I think best thing is to promote stay at home we all know how hard headed normally the old man is. Other thing I guess is to help with excess of anything you might have

I would suggest a way of linking up suppliers with retailers - specifically small farm businesses say making cheese with farm shops. Butchers with slaughter houses with livestock farms.

Many supply chains must currently be disrupted and people would like good food.

Commercial restaurants & pubs are no longer providing food so not only are there far more shoppers but also some businesses may not have a retail outlet.

A forum where people with problems can meet and find solutions.

Transport businesses may also be suffereing under the weight of online orders ..

Spare transport loads .. if any .. could also be used to move goods up and down the country.

The same with farmers .. those looking to buy or sell fodder, inputs, seed .. or those with hopefully a grain mill I can buy for a few quid !

i did suggest we could create a farm to fork market in another thread, it would be fairly easy to do but the response was that other sites exit that already do this

i still think there is mileage in a TFF ”farmers mart” direct selling platform but would need a dozen or so farmers commit to sell produce on there to get it started

I don't know enough yet .. we use a farm shop .. I guess we might know more as time goes on if they are suffering.

A bit concerned livestock farmers are getting an opportunity to continue their business.

At some point MPs need contacting to iron out these issues .. or we try and solve them ourselves.

It may even mean we start new small businesses say delivering farm goods between premises .. we are key workers so we should act like it I guess.

We all have contacts and we can leverage them to get things done. It may mean linking up those with feed mills with those with stocks of Wheat or Oats etc.

At some point we need to try and avert a crysis for the livestock farmers in the coming winter .. I guess this depends on how many can get a Spring crop in .. and that depends on availability of Spring seed .. there might even be a case for relaxing Neonicotinoids.
