So pretty much the same as here then. Instant out when the merchant requests, and a possible delay for credit depending on the transaction system employed. Interesting that you think charges are on a monthly basis with no fee per dollar/ transaction - this differs from my understanding of the worldwide charging structure for VISA etc. and if true would create opportunity for very profitable abuse/ arbitrage.

As for the international bickering, I'm out.
There is a charge if payment is made through a Credit Card, Visa/MasterCard etc, no charge if the payment is made directly from a bank account. As mentioned previously an EFTPOS card is essential a plastic cheque book. How would that open it up for abuse?

Majority of those men left their families to find a better future, create a base, and then get their wife and kids over. Not really useful to send over a minor and expect them to sort out how to get the rest of the family over.
Utter crap , if they had any morals or balls they would get the missus and kids on a boat and pick up a rifle ,as it is they leave them in Syria/Afghanistan etc the women get raped / murdered or are forced to become ISIS or Taliban brides from the age of around 12 , yeah the UK really needs men like them .

There are merchant service fees for Visa/Mastercard transactions, but with swipe/pin transactions they have the option of a "direct" transaction that doesn't involve Visa/Mastercard - these don't have a per transaction or percentage fee as it only involves either of the two EFTPOS networks in NZ. Interestingly though from my understanding contactless transactions do involve a merchant service fee.

I know it must be difficult to accept that your banking system is still in the dark ages with much of the rest of the world having a more advanced system, and I know that my next comments will be construed as anti British, I can assure you they are not intended that way as I do like the UK however those of a precious disposition take every little comment as being anti.
The British are notoriously slow at adapting and do not like change, it took aver a 100 years for the UK to adopt the decimal system, you still haven't grasped the concept of rounding, reading this forum many still pay with cheques and want to keep paying with cash, I cannot see it being a cashless society for many years. We are well into the 21st Century which for me anyway is preferable to the 18th ;)

We have still only partially adopted the decimal system.

For example, any farmer who talks in hectares is regarded with a certain amount of pity. And the Women's Institute still make jam in pints, gills, ounces, cups and desert-spoons etc. And the recycled jam jars are all the standard 1/2lb size.

And as for the Americans - still using bushels. What a backward race!!!!!

We also know sadly that contrary to expectations, the New Zealanders and Aussies can't think for themselves and are now led by the nose by an increasingly oppressive Government. I have it first hand that Ozz has become a humourless police state.

What great benefit does decimal bring? It is just a "different" system in much the same way that metric and imperial measures are different ways of expressing things. Pretty much every person I know understands rounding, but has little need to use it.

As for cashless - just this weekend a passer-by popped her head over the gate & asked if I had any apples for sale; I sold her £5 worth of Bramley apple seconds; in a typical year I might make £50 of sales this way. The cost of owning & maintaing a card machine would strip out any value in the transaction for me regardless of any fees & no one wants to faff around in a poor signal area trying to setup a bank transfer - especially with some of the extra security steps required. There is also the issue of charity pots, on the few occasions that I use cash myself I will usually dump the change into the Air-ambulance/whatever charity pot at the till - with cashless there's no change to go in the pot & people are less likely to donate a "round up" on a card transaction.

I dont think cash will ever disappear as people would start using gold/silver to trade and also sovereigns etc , the government needs to concentrate its efforts on Bitcoin as it`s the preferred currency for the big time crime gangs.
