fertilizer crisis

Going to play the waiting game here, who wants to pay over £600/t to be sat in the shed all winter, probably leave the wheat crop in there instead, price seems to be heading in the right direction on that.
If fert goes up any more i will whole crop next years crop without applying much to it, grass won,t have much maybe a little in April to kick it on a little, that way i will have enough feed for next year. You have to farm in a different way when costs spiral out of control.

Whatever the gas and oil price, and availability, the world leaders are going to eventually knock their heads together and get nitrogen fertilizer available and onto farms and growers all over the world at an affordable price. The fact is that without artificial fertilizer ,lots of people are going to starve. And the riots and civil unrest, even wars will be inevitable.
Like the Indian government are already doing! Massive sub on fert this week as they don’t want to see their people starving next year!

Genuine question. How much less fertiliser do you use in a regen system? @Clive Is this a way of forcing us down that route?
WB
Regen system ?

That's just a buggers muddle and make up what you like. Doesn't mean you use less fertiliser but it can mean you use more spray....oh and that's more expensive as well!

Come on you fertiliser users you have to "feed the world" or so some you keep saying.
One little hiccup and your going to let people starve.

I think the UK public will balk at the increase in energy prices.

A lot of UK jobs will go with energy prices as high as they are likely to be.

HMG just does not have the money to attempt to tackle the Energy Crysis, "Climate Change", recover from Covid 19, HS2, "Level Up" and deal with Brexit.

All of the problems I highlight are due to incompetance in government. They don't know if CO2 is increasing temperatures and by how much, or Methane, or Water, or human development, or indeed anything else. They don't know what to prioritise or when.

The reason for all of these problems is because Government and the Civil Service do not understand how things work because they are not interested and cannot be bothered. There is a complete detatchment between government policy and reality.

For example most student loans will not be paid back. Government and the Civil Servce are CR@P.

At some point you're gonna have to get off the fence and tell us what you really think......

There is a price that is too much to pay for fertiliser, I suppose that depends a bit on your other cost structure though.

I am not sure what to do, Nordstream 2 may lower the price of gas a bit, how long before the need for CO2 will make AN and Urea a waste product though?

I have about a quarter of the fertilizer that I need for next year in the shed, I simply can't afford to buy any at the current prices, being mainly in pigs doesn't help that, at least I have the muck though.
We switching from 2nd winter wheat to spring wheat to use more pig muck on it. What else can one do when they want sk much for N

I can't help but think the fert companies are making a rod for their own back, uk ag. has been addicted to fert for 50 years, what happens when they find out they can manage without buying most of it, thinking about it, if ever there was a time for farmers to wind production back, and wake HMG up a bit to the facts of life, now would be it, I remember the guv'ner complaining when fert was £250/tonne a few years back, I asked him how dear it would have to be before he stopped putting it on, "£300/tonne". I guess we'll find out, mind the 6 tonne put on hereabouts won't make much odds either way.

I get all the fert price is effing mental thing but quite what do people want the fert companies to do exactly? If their raw material has gone beyond mental in price why tf would you think they would continue to sell their end product at last year's prices whilst paying this year's gas prices? If I was them I'd be doing exactly the same as them, take it leave it. Why should they get out of bed if they're not making money? Only farmers would even contemplate doing that.

Yeah thats fair enough, just saying we've (I've) maybe taken it for granted that fert would always be worthwhile, and that maybe a bit of food shortage would concentrate their minds somewhat, particularly when they're doin their level best, to try to eradicate all rural activity.

I wasn't actually having a go at you specifically, soz if that's how it seemed. Just there's quite a lot of posts on various threads aluding to fert companies "profiteering". Call me old fashioned, is that not what we all want to do?

It would be nice to know what proportion gas has gone up in relation to fertiliser and the c02 gas there selling
they had the gas bought forward but decided to sell it back at a higher price
which is business
