Valtra N154 PTO help please

Trying to start the PTO on a new to me N154, just can’t get it to work, is there something I might be missing to start the PTO?
Have turned the rotary dial to select PTO speed, push down and pull back on PTO switch but nothing happens, what am wrong missing.
Reading the manual doesn’t seem to offer any help

Can't remember is the 4 series is the same but the older valtras have a din plug with a loop of wire, on the outside back of the cab, that has to be plugged in for PTO to work.

Does the pto symbol flash when you turn the selector knob to a speed, does does the flashing change when you pull the pto on/off button up?

After extensive playing around the PTO eventually engaged and worked no problem.
I stopped for a pee and left the PTO running as I didn’t want to risk problems starting it again but as I hadn’t pressed the little button to let it know I was as leaving the seat it stopped anyway
Jumped back on and it started off straight away no problem.

Either there’s an electrical gremlin/problem with the switch or there’s an initiation sequence for waking up the PTO that I’m unaware of but stumbled across without realising. Will be off out to do some more after milking, fingers crossed it will be ok or any further thoughts on what I might be missing much appreciated

I have the same issue with my N154 and have had for a couple years. Had it put on comp and worked fine and mech said can't do anything if it doesn't do it when they are there but still charged me for plugging comp in so not had it back.Royal pain in the ass. Found it doesn't do it as often if you switch front PTO on first if you have one.

Had a look on our n174 and they still have the plug on back of cab so may be worth giving it a wiggle/ clean the contacts on that just to rule it out. 🤷‍♂️

Mine did that if you switch the tractor off and let her shut down completely and leave for a couple of minutes and try again she will more than likely engage. It’s a real pain mine was sorted just before it ran out of warranty if I remember it wasn’t a massive job to fix a Valtra dealer will know the issue. Very frustrating but you have a good tractor there this is the first time I have let a tractor go above six thousand hours without changing and she still drives like new.

There's a fault with the pto sensors on them which every dealer will be intimately familiar

If the selector dial keeps flashing when you try changing speed, it's almost certainly those sensors. It's all the more frustrating because it's most often an intermittent fault

Most likely this.

Pain in the arse when you've just had it running, stopped it for some reason then spend half an hour trying to start it again!
