Grain conveyor over a footpath

I have a footpath running through the yard between the drier and a flat floor grainstore. It would be handy to run a conveyor along the roof of this shed to load it straight from the drier if needed. It will mean the conveyor crossing the footpath albeit 6m in the air. Is there any legislation saying this can’t be done as one of the guys on the farm is sure you can’t do it? I’ve never heard anything about it. Obviously necessary precautions will need to be taken during installation.

How well do you get on with your rights of way officer? Ours has been really helpful and if it was me I wouldn’t hesitate to call him and ask the question. However if your planning to JFDI it my be best to keep quiet.
Can see it been an issue as there’s plenty of bridges over footpaths and you can even erect scaffolding over them if need so no real difference.

Bad enough if they think they've the right to exercise/empty their mongrel in your yard; can't believe there's a right to unbroken sky as well.

I find myself more frequently disappointed these days.

Can't see it being a problem,plenty of paths go under bridges and probably pipes

There’s a limestone conveyor belt in South Ferriby, North Lincolnshire that fed the old cement works there that crossed roads, paths, houses, rivers etc

There is no hieght legislation for construction over a public road so this must apply to footpaths too. in the same way we do not have any right to the sky above us. As long as you do not obstruct any ones passage you are fine

No different to a tree branch, bridge arch or telephone wire over a footpath so as long as folks can still walk along the path it should be ok.

There used to be a rule that anything over a path had to be 9 feet off the ground so that a chap on horseback wouldn't be injured.

Not sure if that is still on the statute books though.

Footpaths are historic rights of way and must be respected. If its inconvieient to your grain handling move your grain handling.
But no objection to a conveyor overhead.

Footpaths were a bygon way of getting from A to B before roads, in reality today they should be binned , they binned the old railways that weren't needed

Agree on the history of creation. But they are the only way people like me (and yes i'm in the industry but can't afford a farm for my unlimited access to the countryside) can enjoy the countryside.
You may own your land but are in relatity are only a custodian for future generations. Consider yourself priviledged to own ....... and yes i've milked cows/ done 90 hr weeks /but cannot afford to farm in my own right.

Even our local council would think your comment ridiculous, it costs nothing to move a footpath and has no environmental impact to do so... You can't afford a farm but have your right to enjoy someone elses. I can't afford a house, don't mind if I just use yours do you? Could you move it closer to where I'm located though, it would be easier for me.
