Just swapped my fertiliser this time and was just wondering how do people stop the paint corroding?

wash well, engine oil and a bit of derv

Steam clean it, let it dry properly in the breeze then spray with good oil. Triad 46 works well but so does engine oil or jdf backend oil. If you can buy a machine a few months before you use it and spray with oil it helps the paint last aswell.

As Agrimark said. I’ve just sold a 20 year old Kuhn with no rust. All I had done was wash it off each day after use, and then used oil and diesel mix through a spray gun at the end of the season. i shall do the same with its replacement.

No, it dries & doesn't allow moisture to penetrate or settle................there are various different types for different applications Aidan, I use it because it is used in the oil industry to protect certified materials & threads for short & long term storage, then just a hot steam clean & its gone leaving no residue, I've a couple of customers who perform winter road maintenance using it to protect their tractors etc when spreading salt, seems to be suitable for that as well
You mention steam clean, in the case of a fertilizer spreader would you need to wash it off before you put in fert, let's say you had applied it a month previously
Depending on which variation you specified & used i.e if you used the clear water type or thinners/white spirit type variant which fully dries then there is absolutely no reason why you couldn't just fill your spreader & use it after the initial application as it would be dry
As stated there is multiple variants of Rust-Veto for differing applications, some are like water, some are like thinners/white spirit, some are like a light hyd oil & some are like grease/wax-oil. some are long term, some short etc
The numbering of it is quite random so best ask the supplier exactly the type you want & what you want to use it for.

What spreader did you get?
Never allow it to come in contact with fertiliser - anything else is just delaying the inevitable....
Seriously though, it may be a bit environmentally suspect, but just spray with waste oil. Has worked well for years here.

We used to soak many a machine stood outside with waste oil. The good old days!
You won't stop it rusting, only slow it down. Fertiliser dust gets everywhere and will rot it from the inside out.
I was mine every night with hot water, then TFR, then a hot rise. Once I've done a round of spreading it gets a soaking in WD40. I'll also change the oil in the gear boxes mid season. At the end of the year it gets sprayed in hydraulic oil
