Calf with scour

I've got a calf with scour for the first time in ages.
She was born not even 48 hours ago, yesterday morning she was down, very dehydrated, lethargic etc
I phoned my vet and asked what she would recommend, basically lots of fluid and a jab of diatrim for ecoli

I tubed get yesterday morning with 3 litres of milk + electrolytes
3 litres of water + electrolytes after lunch
3 litres of milk at about 7pm with electrolytes
3 litres of milk and electrolytes at 1am ish

She's much happier this morning, less dehydrated and not quite so loose

She drank 1 litre of milk from the bottle

Do I tube her with another 2 litres or leave her go until lunch and see if she wants anymore?

Don't like tubing as I find it puts them off sucking...

But don't want to not tube and then have a dead calf because she should have had the fluids

Are you sure it was scour? Bit odd if it was at less than 2 days old.

It will do no harm to tube it again.you got any snyulox bolus, that's what we give if have something with scour.

She isn't exactly keen, it's more I shove bottle in mouth and she half heartedly sucks, but it's better than nothing (yesterday)

Having thought about it since I posted, I think I'll carry on tubing today, so finish this mornings feed, tube at lunch with water, offer her milk with a bottle tonight and then give whatever she doesn't drink

Then I'll skip the night feed tonight and hopefully she'll be hungry tomorrow morning and drink by herself 🤞

Yes definitely scour, she actually scoured for first time at 12 hours old

Really took a hold very very quickly

I have synulox inj but no bolus, vets not keen on them

Hope your calf is feeling better. Agree on tubing as fluids vital. On farm scour test kits are great going forward as cheap and quick to identify cause.

She was awaiting me for lunch time feed

And never have i been quite so happy to see sh!t! Makes a change from the stuff that could pass through the eye of a needle

I am getting quite concerned that she's getting a bit bloated now?
I dont want to overfill her and it spill into the rumen and ferment then end up with an infection in the rumen and her dying that way

I Had one in the spring do that, was gutted.
Thoughts?

I wouldn't be tubing her again if it was me (unless she physically wont drink). Offer 2L milk with electrolytes mixed in twice a day. Tube her with water/electrolytes only if she doesn't drink the milk/electrolytes. 2L twice a day more than enough until she's a week old and drinking properly. Offer adlib clean water and starter pellets in a bucket.

If she’s up and about like that and it doesn’t look dehydrated I wouldn’t be tubing her. Looks like you’re thru the woods 👍
